Sunday's broadcast of episode #29 was pretty good, but it just didn't have enough gruesome and graphic bloody deaths [/sarcasm]. At least the Starks got rewarded for their amazing stupidity. How could they not see what was coming? How could they not know that gala receptions are always the perfect place for betrayal and revenge? Didn't any of them ever see "The Sword And The Sorcerer" with Lee Horsley and Richard Lynch?

Only knowing the story from what's been shown on HBO, I believe I'm done w/ the series.

Yes, I followed along through almost all 3 seasons, so the basic tone of sex/violence/vulgarity wasn't enough to drive me away.

There were a few issues I had, story wise, which weren't making much sense.

Then there was the overtly gratuitous and pointless ( best as I can tell ) torture of Theon Greyjoy.

And then... The Red Wedding... well, that's likely done it for me.

You'd think, being a Whedon fan, one would be immune to the killing off of prominent characters. Actually, it's had the opposite effect.

Oh well.

The joke of the day...

George R.R. Martin has closed his twitter account. All 140 characters have been eliminated.

I watched it again last night and I enjoyed it more than the first time.

"...so the basic tone of sex/violence/vulgarity wasn't enough to drive me away."

Wasn't enough to drive you away?!...that's the reason I watch it! LOL.

Season 3 finale this weekend. 4 more years to go.

Nope. 0 more years. I'm done.

Had another fan, who had read the books, say the great snuffing was enough for them as well. They tried to read on, but had just lost interest, and didn't even finish the next book.

Well, to each his own. But before you go, I'm curious about the following:

Will you be watching the season finale,'cause it looks great...with dragons and all?

Wasn't Daenerys' little bath tub scene worth another season or two?

Isn't Ygritte a wild warrior woman in the tradition of Zoe?

Aren't you gonna miss cute little Arya?

Don't you want to see how things work out with Sansa and Tyrion?

What are your objections to the show?

I'm sure I'll hear about the finale', but no... won't be watchin'. Not even for dragons. ( Which sucks, because as they grow up, I know one, all , likely will end up dying. And while mostly the killing of dragons is a good thing - Smaug, for example - I'm sure these critters will die horribly , and suffer. Pass. )

I didn't get to see her ... ya know.

Ygritte looks more like a red headed Gabrielle, Xena's lesbefriends side kick. Of which I was a big fan.

I am going to miss Arya. I have to assume she gets raped, disfigured and or killed. Or all three. At once. Don't wanna see any of it.

Sansa and Tyrion...both die. I mean, everyone dies, right ? And horribly so. With out honor or a redeeming end.

Indeed - my ex makes me read the long books and offer her the summary, which kinda resulted in me despising Harry Potter as naught more than literary sadism, and Martin is even worse about it - I actually got to meet him at a convention (before he got trapped in the elevator, ask him about that sometime!) and asked him if he was "Paid by the word, or what?!"...

But even for my beloved ex, I am done with Martin, his last book wasn't even a novel, it was the bastard lovechild of Robert Jordan and Stephen King!
EIGHT HUNDRED pages of nothing more than flat out "filler" which advanced the plot barely an iota, while showcasing misery upon misery.

Frankly, I've been rooting for The Others for some time now, and factually they're all doomed anyways cause early on in the series they mention they've only five years worth of stockpiled food, and that was before a war and seiges and various destruction cut into it, beyond which given the way they think that was no doubt only considering them and their flunkies and to blazes with the common folk, so if winter or war doesn't finish em starvation surely will, and if they're lucky enough to avoid that, The Others will finish the job.

And in my opinion - that's a "Happy Ending"!

And it's because I read most ( not all ) of those books, I must say farewell to GoT. I picked up the Potter books around the time the 2nd or 3rd book had come out, I suppose. Early on, it was sorta fun to see this world Rowling had created. But soon, I started seeing similarities to other well known literary works, and in MY mind, the story became less magical and more of a rip off. I can't recall if I actually made it through the 6th book, but by that time, I'd lost all interest.( though I was relieved when Dobby died. Most annoying character since Jar Jar Binks ) Never read the 7th, and waited a long time to even see the 2 parts of the movie.

So, when it comes to putting down or turning off a story which has clearly lost its way, I feel more a sense of relief and freedom, than regret or longing for the path never taken.

Yeah, when I read the events of Episode 3.09, I slammed the book down and swore never to read any more. Really, I did. And I made it about 24 hours before I picked it up again.

Here me now and believe me later... I say this If you do not watch tomorrow's finale, you will be missing out. The R. R. Martin giveth, and the R. R. Martin taketh away. But not always in the order.

Unlike Harry Potter and certain works of Stephen King, I don't mind Martin's hundreds of pages. Certainly, I'm a junky for plot, but I also just love being immersed in the different climates, languages, foods, clothing, ways of life, etc... I am addicted to these books. There's just so much depth.

Wash would return from the dead if George R.R. Martin wrote the sequel to Serenity. And Wash, horribly scarred, would show no mercy to Reavers. It's payback time! Expect the same on Game of Thrones.

LOL! If only!

But now I must admit my fail. Episode 10 did not do what I hoped. And now I must wait a year for the next season.

Between that and waiting for The Walking Dead, I am paying back karma for being such a slacker with my fanfic.

Dammit all, Mal! I guessed wrong! I thought season 3 of Game of Thrones would end with a major character returning from the dead because A Storm of Swords, book 3 of the series, ends with this scene:

Select to view spoiler:

“She don’t speak,” said the big man in the yellow cloak. “You bloody bastards cut her throat too deep for that. But she remembers.” He turned to the dead woman and said, “What do you say, m’lady? Was he part of it?”

Lady Catelyn’s eyes never left him. She nodded.

Merrett Frey opened his mouth to plead, but the noose choked off his words. His feet left the ground, the rope cutting deep into the soft flesh beneath his chin. Up into the air he jerked, kicking and twisting, up and up and up.

THE END

That is an ugly image to end a season of TV. I assume this return from the dead scene was moved to the first episode of Season 4 so that Season 3 could end more peacefully with the mother of dragons Daenerys Targaryen triumphant.

No, I didn't expect that at all. I believe that is somewhat removed in the books. I don't expect it until later in season 4, possibly toward the end.

I was hoping for...

If I quit watching every time a major character were killed off, I'd have quit this place the day "Serenity" hit the theaters.

I'd also have quit Buffy in the second season, and Angel in the first.

People die, in stories and in real life, and in both cases, it's rarely when and where you expect. The rest of us keep going on, somehow.

I was shocked by some of the deaths, but that just goes to show the power and skill of the writer, because he or she made you CARE about these fictional people in the first place.

Dammit... I DID sorta watch the final episode. Not fully, mind you, but enough to kinda follow up on the aftermath of prior events.

The curious turn of events seem to have, for the moment, turned Arya and The Hound into strange allies. She's gone from vowing to bury a sword into his skull to needing him to save her Stark skin, and get her far away from The Twins as possible.

Hound: "Where'd you get the knife ? "

Arya: " It's yours "

*chuckle*

Hound's expression was great, followed by the comical comment ... almost brought me back.

Almost.

Reminds me of The Sopranos when they killed off Mikey Palmice during the first season. The Sopranos killed off a lot of characters in six years, but Mikey was special. No one on that show looked, acted, and spoke the part of a Jersey wise guy like he could. Except maybe Richie Aprile.

Kind'a my feeling.

I've read all five books, and from we're at ending season 3 it just goes from death to maiming to torture to failure to betrayal to crushed hopes, and then gets worse. And he keeps adding more and more characters to beat up on. There really doesn't seem to be any point other than to see what new and different torture he can put his characters through. There's some characters he's spends fifty pages developing, and then just kills them off pointlessly. Then there's stuff like a feast of 77 courses, and he has to describe each one in detail(right up until the murder). Does he think he's being paid by the word?

Oh man, I have such a Walking Dead addiction! Watched all three season in the past few months, and it's been going through multiple views.

Now I'm starting on the graphic novels. Interesting, but I like the TV series better so far. Maybe because I'm completely crushing on Daryl.
