I hope we can save the show somehow but on a lighter note how about this episode? Wash had quite a few good lines as did everyone.

First point Book and Jayne's thoughts when River seemed to be feeling their emotions.

Jayne "I got greedy, the money was too good"
Book "I don't give half a hump if your innocent or not. So where does that put you?"

Jayne is the only member of the crew that River does not contact to help with her plan.

When Simon sees the shepard knocked out Early states "That ain't no shepard".

Does Early possibly know something? Do they know each other? Also why was he so upset about being knocked out? just being manly around "Jayne "If wishes were horses we'd all be eating steaks"?" But my main question is what does his quote mean? It also seemed to be in a very nasty tone of voice.

Mal "give your brother a thrashin for messing up your plan"

Wow, this seems to be Rivers plan from the start? having Mal kick the guy into space and getting him and everyone else to trust her is impressive. Maybe that's why Jayne wasn't contacted?

Great acting job by Summer and anothet great episode.

"What! Are you out of your mind?"
"Heh, that's a very funny question to ask a telepath... since we spend so much of our time in other peoples' minds.

Decent episode.
It employed some interesting editing effects to convey River's telepathy (or empathy).

But overall I think the ball stayed in the park on this one. I'd call it a triple. The run did eventually score (on three consecutive walks), but "Objects in Space" wasn't a home run for me as Firefly's last four or five episodes in a row have been.

I found the episode lagged in places. Too much talking to thin air. I thought some of the space walking shots looked cheesy. I was disappointed in how the story glossed over Easy's method of entry into the ship. Does Firefly have no depressurization alarms?

I have to admit, I feel weird saying this about a Whedon helmed episode. But this is my impression.

I did enjoy Jubal Early the strangely philosophical bounty hunter. It would be fun to see him again somehow (perhaps he'll be picked up alive -- but hopefully not by Reavers or Blue Hands).

I bet this episode grows on me.

my favorite scene is when jayne finally wakes up from the noise and pulls the curtian down exposing all his weapons then uses the curtain as a blanket and goes back to sleep...

I like how focused River gets when necessary. Her sanity is very mission oriented.

HOOK

hey i found something...

Jubal Early, Major General, forty-six, commander of one of Ewell's divisions. A dark, cold, icy man, bitter, alone. Left the Point to become a prosecuting attorney, to which he is well suited. A competent soldier, but a man who works with an eye to the future, a slippery man, a careful soldier; he will build his reputation whatever the cost. Dick Ewell defers to him. Longstreet despises him. Lee makes do with the material at hand. Lee calls him "my bad old man."

This is a direct quote from the book "The Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara. The book is a fictional acount of the battle of Gettysburg. I also have read that this book was partialy insperational to Joss for creating Firefly...very interesting.

The only person River didn't get a message from at the beginning of the ep was Kaylee. Wonder why?
Will these quotes mean more as time passes?

Probably Kaylee is the only one on the ship without some deep untold secret. My guess is thats why River likes hanging out with her. She doesn't have to deal with two conflicting images.

Just figured I would throw this info out. WHat River sees Jayne saying is exactly what he said when he was gonna get shot out the airlock. What Simon said was somehting from a prev ep also. So these 2 represent the past.

She sees what Zoe and Wash are doing, present.

She sees what Mal and Enara are going to say , future.

I wonder if what Book was saying was past also, I have seen in another post that Jayne may have confessed to Book, hence all the time they have been spending toghter.

Thoughts? :)

I really wonder about what she heard from Book. I know that he isn't what he appears to be. He's got dark ghosties in his past. But I wonder if that really was past, or maybe future? Maybe the good Shepard has a crisis of faith?

______________
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?
BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

a little off topic... but Sarge... I love your tag:
"There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary, and those who don't."

I was trying to explain binary to a friend the other day and managed to confuse the heck out of him when I said 1=1, 10=2, 11=3, 100=4... etc.

I studied C and C++ in college, but I wouldn't call myself a programmer. I used to call myself a User Interface Designer... (which meant that I spent a lot of time talking to developers and translating their ideas into user friendly designs)

but since the dotcom fall out, I am now calling myself (ICK!) a program manager. It's making me crazy. I miss having a job that actually allowed me to be creative and artistic. I found that both coding and designing were immensely satisfying... and being a PM... magnificently boring.

I've spent the last three years learning C++ on my own. Right about the time I was ready to go look for a job, the aforementioned dot.com bubble popped. Anyway, I'd love to discuss what the programming field is like in practice, if you're up for it, write me at:

aaaaalright, this ep was quite good!
Its was different, kinda spiritual. Even there were some fights, even using martial arts, but the fights and all this were just the suger in the coffee, the main point was this subconcious thing, you know the thing with the shepperd saying he dont care someone is innocent (past, future, we'll see, i hope so) and this guy saying that that aint a sheppert at all. And when river told she melted with the ship i nearly boutght it, it was freakin good job. Maybe joss should have revealed the point of river being on earlys ship bit later.
This Fast&Furious like going-through-ship sequences were fine job too. And it had some nice philosophical lines like early speaking about the purpose of an empty room. This ep performed very well creating some change to the other eps.

Rivers point of view was fascinating. One point that I havn't seen touched on was the differing clarity of what she sensed. Inara's thoughts came through crystal clear. Mal's thoughts were filtered as if she had to dig much deeper to get what he was thinking.
Or,if whe were sensing the future, Mal's line comes from much farther in the future.
I'm going with the surface-deeper theory. Inara has already shown how much she cares for Mal in "The Train Job" and "Our Mrs. Reynolds", while Mal hasn't yet seemed to admit his feelings to himself.

Hope to see more of my favorite show. Working tonight, Serenity set to record.

I thought that Mal almost sounded as though he was in tears during the telepathy scene. It was painful to watch.

I just had to watch this ep again... and i think it aint quite right, the thing river sensed werent some things from the past or the future...
it were the thoughts of the ppl, it were the things that bugged them while they were trying to distract themselves from these thoughts by conversation. These were the true doc, jane, book, wash, zoe, inara and mal(did you ever read the works of shun yu ;););) ), unhidden behind their masks, unfiltered by some sociological behavior rules. Doc said that river would be able to feel everything, well guess she isnt able to feel just all of her feeling but also all feeling of other persons.

good point on the clarity thing. The strongest, alsomost overbrearing of the sexual activity was in real time and hence very hard to deal with. Damn I love this show. Has anyone thrown the theory up that Early is what they were trying to turn River into, and when we hear him get philosophical, that is the real Early who is trying to get out (like when the real River seems to come out sometimes) maybee it was the true early fighting what was done to him. Was his past of fear and torture merely implanted by the allience. A type of "ghost hack".
