Well we all know Whedon is doing a spectacular run on Astonishing X-Men, but I was surprised to see in the letter's column of BK Vaughn's 'The Runaways'...

A letter by Joss expressing his disbelief at the cancellation of the series. Thankful, BK Vaughn annouced 'Runaways' will be continuing after a hiatus early next year (hopefully Jan.) due ,in no small part, to the crack-like sales figures of the first trade paperback / graphic novel. (pulling a "Firefly" perhaps?)

It's actually just 'Runaways', but it's a comic, by Marvel, basically centering around 6 kids from 6 different families. Every year, their families get together for a charitable foundation... the kids hang out together, while the adults go and discuss what they claim is boring stuff. One year, one of the kids has found a secret passage and they all decide to spy on them... only to see them murder an apparently innocent teenage girl as part of some sacrifice. Their parents are supervillains, and they're the only ones who know.

It's set in the Marvel Universe (a few Marvel characters make appearances in the series, others are mentioned as though they're part of the landscape). It's very good, and Whedon's mentioned elsewhere that he likes it a lot.

The first twelve of the 18 issues released so far have been released in two full-color manga-sized digests of six issues each, available at some comic and bookstores (and maybe online too, at some places), it's easier than tracking down the issues. The last 6 issues will probably be collected in January, around the same time as issue one of 'season two' comes out.

Sound great. I usually avoid Marvel comics but that sounds good. Kinda more a Peter Bagge guy.
