Okay, just for you Rhyme here is the Reader's Digest version of recommended packing stuff:
-Flash light
-Sleeping bag and/or warm blanket to keep warm while you watch FF
-Camera
-Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirt on cause we've got plenty of dirt, and poo too.
-Tarp or something waterproof to put under a blanket if you want to sit on the ground. It may dew as early as 8 or 9pm and you don't want to sit on a damp blanket on the damp ground.
-And YOU Rhyme need to pack the DVDs :D

See you soon! :)
Drive safely.

YAY...thank you for this. Luckily, I was a smarty pants and remembered to bring everything. And yes, I have the DVDs, and I have so many that I ran out of room in the duffel bag!

Rhyme is happy even though she has a freakin' *cold* that hit just yesterday! *sniffle* Figures!!

***Bumpity-Bump-Bump***

Well - it's an epidemic cause I'm sick too! I've had a terrible cold and hacking cough for almost 2 weeks but I'm going to the shindig come hell or high water (or on a gurney, if I must)! I even remembered to pack some allergy medicine cause of all the am-inals.

SOOOO EXCITED!!!!

What's with all this being sick just before the shindig?! Y'all need to really bundle up if you're going to be sitting out in the chill tomorrow night. I'm planning on bringing a few extra blankets, just in case...

Upped the order to 60 bao and will be picking them up freshly steamed tomorrow at 11:00am. Mmmmmmmm....fresh bao....

I also picked up 3 cases of water bottles, and a thing of hand sanitizer to tape to the port-a-potty.

See y'all tomorrow!

BUMP! The whole family is hyper freakin excited about the Shindig! Husband saw a shooting star tonight and proclaims it an omen for even finer stargazing in Pennsylvania.

I've baked up two trays of Betty Crocker brownies and two trays of shortcake as base for strawberries. Which, btw, are somewhat out of season here in the Core Planets...but fear not: for we shall augment the fresh with the frozen, sliced, presweetened, and we shall smother them in whipped cream, and yea, verily, they shalt be yummilicious.

(Whoa! Good Bible!).

Oh browncoats we cannot wait to meet you! Take your TheraFlu tonight and be healthy tomorrow, or I'll dose you all with therapeutic cheese dip.
How's THAT for a threat? And I hope the folks with the guacamole are bringing spicy chips :)
Clear you sniffling folks right up. Verily.

Shindig Rules
Most of these are common sense, but please take a minute to read them through. Thank you. :)

1. NO smoking anywhere near the barn. Hay is incredibly flammable and smoking anywhere near the barn is dangerous. There will be a designated place for smoking with an ash tray and this is the only place you can smoke.
2. NO feeding the horses ANYTHING. Horses have very very sensitive digestive systems and can actually die from an ordinary stomach ache. So, please don't feed them. They will be just as happy if you give them a nice scratch on the face. :)
3. No underaged drinking. No exceptions.
4. No weapons. If you have a life-size working replica of Vera that you really want to bring, don't. Bring a picture instead.
5. Do not enter any pasture where horses are running loose and do not go in any horse's stall. This is for your own safety, everyone. An animal that weighs over 900 lbs. can hurt you without meaning to. My horses are nice, but remember you are in just as much pain if the animal hurts you by accident as if they did it on purpose.
6. Please remember that this shindig is family friendly. There are several families with young teenagers attending. Please act accordingly.

Packing List:

Don't forget to bring:

-Flash light: so that you can find your way to the bathroom while Firefly is playing. You don't want to walk into a tree because you can't see!
-Sleeping bag and/or warm blanket to keep warm while you watch Firefly. Also make sure you bring warm clothes.
-Allergy medicine: if you are allergic to something, chances are we have it here. So be sure to pack your allergy medicine.
-Cash or check for the DVD auction. You can get the deal of a lifetime on a DVD box set! For more information on the auction visit the Schedule section of the shindig website.

Well, it finally happened. I got sick and tired of missing all the Shindiggity fun, so I decided to start planning one of my own! This Shindig is still in the planning stages so ANY and ALL help/suggestions will be very appreciated.

Where: My horse farm. (Harleysville, PA. About one hour NNW of the Philly airport)

When: October 9-10.

Who is welcome: EVERYONE! Bring yourself, your Firefly converts, and potential converts.

How long is the Shindig: I'm thinking a Saturday-Sunday thing.

Accommodations: I have a large house, a few extra beds, plenty of sofas, and room for sleeping bags. Also, for those with allergies(I have LOTS of animals) there are a few hotels within 15 minutes of my house.

Potential Activities:(please comment on which you would like)
-FIREFLY PROJECTED ONTO THE SIDE OF MY BARN! We can watch Firefly outside under the stars. (This could be lots of fun, but is weather dependent.)
-BBQ, cookout. I'll feed ya. Maybe hamburgers and hotdogs, maybe something a bit classier if I can find someone who is a better cook than me.
-Beer! Yes, beer is an activity. ;p (I'll have soda for those under 21, so no under aged drinking.)
-Horsie rides. I'll give anyone that wants a chance to ride on a horse, a ride a few times around my riding ring. Or if you just want to get up for a photo op. that is fine too. :)
-Conversation with fellow Browncoats about Firefly. Like I could even stop that if I tried. ;p
-Someone at FFF.net suggested those with guitars and other instruments bring them. Good idea, but I'm musically impaired so this would be up to other to do.

Soooo, that's what I have so far. Suggestions, anyone? If you would like to come, please email me through my profile or post here so that I can get an idea of how many people to expect. Thanks! :)

-MOH

Are you KIDDING me? This will NEVER work out. Sorry to be the wet-blanket. (note: blanket turned out to be wet due to dew)

Hmmmm, ya know, I've got a thought that seeing Serenity played on the side of a certain barn once it is released on DVD would be pretty shiny.

I'd be willing to get a job where I don't have to work occasional weekends in order to attend if someone were to host a shindig once the BDM was out on DVD.

What a coincidence! I was just reminiscing to myself about that weekend! Favorite things:

1) 40+/- Browncoats singing "Take my love...take my land..." at the top of their lungs at the beginning of each ep...well into the wee hours. The poor neighbors!

2) The beautiful starlit night, everyone bundled up, sitting in groups yet all of us together, eating popcorn and drinking hot chocolate (or whatever).

3) The kindness of MOH and her family. Truly remarkable for them to let several dozen complete strangers roam all over their house and land.

4) How everone brought something or contributed something, tangible or intangible, to the group as a whole. It was what I imagine a commune would be like. A good one, not like David Koresh or anything.

5) My chocolate chip cookies were a huge hit. Especially with Rhymephile--she still talks about them.

Anyone else? Have favorite memories, that is, not a comment on my cookies. Unless they ARE your favorite memory.

Believe it or not I actually updated the Shindig website. Apparantly there IS a limit to how long a person can procrastinate.

Hopefully I will be adding a poll in the next few days(I need to figure out how first) to get everyone's thoughts on the date for the 2005 shindig. So keep checking the site so that you can give your thoughts on the date.

Anyway, everyone can check it out at:
www.myorangehat.citymax.com/shindig.html

Edited to add: I just figured out the poll thing and it is up and working. :)

Ooh, wow, the Shindig website is updated? Keen.

Yes, I loved the chocolate chip cookies. Lovelovelove. I want more love in the fall. Highlight of the weekend, as was the lovely whiskey so kindly provided by Suze to help soothe my throat after a combination auction yelling and illness! Ugh, being sick that weekend sucked!

I loved the horseback riding; the generous Browncoats who bought everything I brought with me (sans Cedric the Entertainer, it's still in my trunk!); the laughter; all the fun despite my head cold; and putting faces to names.

Can't wait for the next one! And the next one will be even better, because the first one was a warm-up!

P.S. Mmmmm, cookies.
