How We can Get 10% Off Firefly @Amazon

Based on an idea by RHUTTNER

Amazon has this deal (they call Share the Love) whereby you can offer a 10% discount, on any DVD (maybe anything) you buy from them, to a whole list of email addresses. Amazon sends an email to each address, with a link to each item discounted. If someone uses a link, within one week, to buy an item & take the 10% discount, the original purchaser receives an equal credit, which can be applied toward future purchases.

(If the picture is still fuzzy, try adjusting the contrast)

Now, here's my plan:
Let us Amazon customers build a list (within Amazon) of friends and, whenever we buy our next copy of Firefly, offer the 10% discount to everyone on the list. (Remember that the discount is good for only one week.)

I just bought my fifth copy, so it'll probably be awhile before I buy another, but probably by Christmas. Anyway.

Please add me (yt13@aol.com) to your list of Amazon friends, and remember to Share the Love with me when you buy Firefly.

I will do likewise for anyone who replies with their email address, in this thread.

NOTE: Something I learned after posting my original offer in the other thread. As the person that sends out the discount offer you will only get 1 credit per item.

So if I send the email to person A and person B, both of them will get the item for 10% off, but I will only receive the 10% credit once.

If the email was for 2 items and person A buys only the first, and person B buys both, then I will receive credit for item 1 from person A and item 2 from person B.

Also, the credit I get is only good for 30 days after its posted to my account.

What YT is suggesting is still a good idea for people to do, but I don't want people to think that if they Share the Love with 15 people that they will get credit 15 times. Its probably better to only use 1 name per person when sending out the offer. Then that person will use the next one and so on.

Something YT forgot to mention is an extra 1.57% off. After logging into your Amazon account, use the search engine at a9.com. You will automatically get a 1.57% discount on your next order (not sure if there is a time limit). A9 is Amazon's search engine which uses Google technology.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Sounds like a good idea YT. This way we share the love of Firefly, but we can all save a bit of money too.

This 10% discount might be enough to help push some of the fence sitters over into buying a copy of the DVD, and help some of the Browncoats who are short on funds get their own set.

It's a nice enough notion. But 10% is like three bucks. If I were a fence sitter (which I am not), $3 wouldn't convert me. And, for my money, it's not worth getting my email address on yet another spammer's list. Yes, Amazon will sell your soul for three bucks.

Course, that's easier to say since I already bought a few copies of the DVDs.

Problem with this method is it requires further correspondence to know who is next gonna buy Firefly. If we each just always use the latest link to take the 10% discount, I don't reckon we'll be out of sync much.

Five years ago I used to get about fifty spam emails a day. Now it's about one, usually from a new domain. I don't reckon my address is less available but, spam blocking is doing a fine job for me. However (to quote a friend), "Your mileage may vary" (hereafter "YMMV").

It's a moot point for me, anyway, 'cause I've been shopping @Amazon.com for years. They already have my addresses (snail & email).
