Fellow Browncoats,

When you're posting a picture of your favorite Firefly-class 03-K64 Mid-bulk transport, please remember that the version that wound up on the DVD cover is NOT the final design!

I say this because everybody's been posting that early "lumpy" version in Internet polls of 'Best Sci-Fi Spaceships,' and now ThinkGeek has it on their new "Firefly Leggings"!

These are renders of the sleeker final version, from Zoic Studios...

(Sorry if this seems a bit anal-retentive, but I just really hate that version on the DVD cover!)

Me too. Like you said, 'lumpy'.
Hey dude, didn't I just see you on the book of face?

Yep, and I also posted it to the Observation Deck at io9, where the replies so far are all in favor of "Lumpy."

I think I prefer the "wrong" one.

x84jdh > Gibbelins

Ditto. The "correct" version looks awfully sleek.

cljohnston108 > x84jdh

And that's a bad thing because... ?

Gibbelins > cljohnston108

It's bad for Serenity to look sleek because she was supposed to be a scrappy junker that was barely holding together. That's part of her charm.

a_blackpanther > x84jdh

Exactly!

And ThinkGeek did it again with their "Serenity Schematic" T-shirt!

DALEK!

I like the lumpy version because you could really fit the interior of the ship in that version. Not so much with the others.

I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

Oh now it's basically the same size just certain lines are different. Not enough to alter the insides much if at all...

Well, except that the interior wasn't designed to fit in the lumpy version...

Is the wrong version the model before the extenders were added on? I had originally thought the extenders were between fuselage body and atmo engines, but maybe this is what was being referred to.

Oh, there are a whole lotta changes between the two! It's fun to load the two images in my image viewer and just flip back & forth. (Wish I knew how to make animated GIFs)

I've amended my original post. Dunno if it'll clarify anything, though.

Wait, wait, wait.... there are Firefly leggings? I do not even care which version of the ship is on them. They are adorable and I want them. Is it bad that I do not discriminate?

I just had a look at the Sci-Fi T-shirts on sale at Neatorama's "NeatoShop," and I'm happy to report that pretty much all their Firefly-related items feature the proper design of our Serenity...

I can see Serenity Moving Co Est 2517, a few years after starting but before picking up the Tams, but Serenity Est 2459 seems off. Our Firefly was christened Serenity after the Battle of Serenity Valley (2511) and about 5 years before Out of Gas (making it 2512).
