Troll or not, this flurry of posting by said person might want to be redirected to more appropriate pages?

TAUSETIPRIME

This kind of random flurry reminds me of another stream of social strangeness I ran into in school.

There were these 2 girls (identical twins) who dressed alike, never left eachothers side, wore their hair the same way, and always went to class together. To spice things up, they would wear alternating colors in there clothes ( i.e. blue shirt with green pants, and green shirt with blue pants, always the same). They were NEVER seen more than that 2 feet away from eachother.

Now, some of you may say this is normal for identical twins...but I left something out.

The girls were 22 years old, and the school I was going to when I ran into them was Georgia Tech. They said they would only marry another pair of identical twins.

I thought it was the strangest thing Ive ever seen...

They didnt call it the dark ages because it was dark.

His/Her posts are in the General Discussion section - where else should they be here on FFFn - in your opinion?

OR - Did you mean an entirely different WebSite from FFFn?

Do you think this individual is really a troll?
I thought maybe they were trying to spark discussions that they were interested in...
true, they were using the copy and paste method,
but at least the things that were posted were of some kind of interest...
sort of.

Now to see a real troll (someone who seriously needs their medications checked) look at what is happening over here at the E! online forum:

I admit that I think it's odd that this person is copying things from other sources and posting it here. And as a writer, it bothers me more than a little that he/she/it isn't citing the source material -- smacks a little much of plagiarism to me.

Other than that, though, I ignore the posts. It's nice that AP puts the subjects in ALL CAPS, so I know which ones to skip.

I agree with Gojiro on the whole not citing sources thing as being bothersome. Some of the stuff is copied whole cloth from web sites, others appears to be modifications of existing material. The posts are interesting. Troll? I don't know.

There are three kinds of people: fighters, lovers, and screamers.

Exactly, they were interesting. Yeah, the poster should have mentioned his or her sources, but come on, its not like the person is making money off of these postings.

As a science fiction fan, I for one rather like these threads and am thankful for them.

So lay off this anonymous poster!

No, he/she/it is not making money off these postings, but he/she/it is claiming ownership tacitly by not citing the original source.

Maybe it's an writer thing.

No, it is not a writer thing. I don't write, but I am annoyed when I see people taking credit for other people's work by not telling the true source.

The posts are made up to look like he/she made the stuff up by him-/herself.

If the sources are "forgotten by accident", then it would only be fair to correct this as soon as the first reply says "The stuff you make up is pretty cool" (or something else with that meaning) with a reply "Sorry, it is not from me, I found it here (where "here" is the source)"

At least that would be better manners than taking credit for it.

Keep flying,
Gavida

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I think that the posts should be moved to the Other Sci Fi section as they are related to other sci fi series.

I also find it a bit odd that the poster is not citing the source of the post and giving a link.

The length of the posts is burning up a lot of space too. If people are interested, fine, but if not why post them?

you make a very good point about band width...
and actually if the individual had simply posted a link to the discussion lj or whatever then they would have solved two problems at once:
1. the source would have been self evident
2. it wouldn't have taken up band width here

but I still wouldn't have labeled them 'troll'

I don't see anything wrong with what was posted. I agree that posting a link with a description in the title would have been a better way. But I have seen much more pointless posts here before and nobody have a problem with it.
If you don't like it, do what I did when I clicked on the post: don't read it.

Well, that's kinda why I posted it as a question, to see if others saw it as I did. As was pointed out, there's no reference or source given for any of these post, nor were they following up any other post relevent to Firefly. Not flaming or annoyed in the least, just making a casual observation. While interesting to read, I don't see why they warrent being on a FIREFLY page, when other sci fi section seems ( to me ) more suitable. Just my 2 cents.

Good point, and now we won't read any more information provided by him or her.

I was under the impression that AP was a terribly creative person. If (s)he is posting other people's work, that is very annoying to me.

But regardless, unless it deals with Firefly, I think it should all be under Other SF Series.

I'm with y'all on this. I haven't a huge amount of time to read much when I get to FFF.net and I got hung up on some very odd thread that was like the pre-history of history of some such, with picts, etc.
After I read nearly half, all I could think was a Mal-esque "huh". Why was I reading it and what did it have to do with FF? Well, yes it was interesting, sort of... but confusing, mostly. :/

And Amen to that...but I really did enjoy the speculative nature of some of what he posted. At least what I've seen in the few weeks I've been here regularly. Life always goes on.
