Has anyone here given any serious consideration to the notion that the general 'outlaw' tone of the series might have had something to do with its "mishandling"? Perhaps one of the Fox execs or someone with a great deal of influence over them was uncomfortable with something that could turn into a big hit promoting the outlaw lifestyle. It's not like this kind of thing doesn't happen. Even in an enlightened democracy such as ours, leaders will see a clear benefit in quieting notions that don't fall in line with what they deem 'vital to national security'.... Hang on a second, there's someone at the door..hmmm couple of guys in dark suits.

Does "serious consideration" involve this guy: ?

But no, seriously, if they were feeling skittish about influencing people, they probably wouldn't have advertised the show during American Idol. I'm pretty sure that was intended to be good advertising, even if the ads were completely inept.

Plus, I mean, Fox said they were happy with "The Train Job." I don't see how they'd consider saving an innocent girl from torture to be more villainous than robbing a train.

I would bet that most of the executives at FOX have never even seen Firefly, other then the ads they run (maybe) and at best have read a discription of the show - which I am sure doesn't do it justice.

Also don't forget that famous paranoid quote"

'ARE YOU PARANOID IF THEY ARE REALLY TRYING TO KILL YOU?"

I would question their unwillingness to promote Firefly and their shameless promotion of "Joe Millionaire". What kind of lifestyle is that justifying - Don't question authority but choose your lover by the size of their wallet?
I think right now we're all trying to figure out their reasons, and the truth we can't because it doesn't make sense...Maybe, they just plain didn't like it. Who knows?

Really though, the posture of the show is decidedly anti big government. They even refer to the alliance baddies as "Feds". That's got to gnaw at the powers-that-be. It wasn't that long ago that Nixon and his crew had several television shows put on 'hiatus' because they took an obviously critical point of view. Its not much of a stretch to imagine that one or two FOX execs might have been 'persuaded' to leak bad news about the pilot or to prompt pre-emptions at critical ratings junctures to see to it that the show never got off the ground. Time to take me meds now. bye bye

I believe it was President Bartlett who says that it is an American's duty to question the government...it's Anti-American to accept all their decisions without question. Or something like that...

Not promote Firefly? You call running ads during some of your top-rated shows "unwillingness?"

And as a side note, I don't see where you'd get that moral from Joe Millionaire. The whole point of the show is "Look at all these shallow women who will flock to this ordinary Joe if we tell them he's rich!" It's basically a parody of all these Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire?/The Bachelor-type shows.

Joe Millionaire is a parody of the idiots that will tune in to watch it.

It's not a conspiracy, it's a club of like-minded individuals who believe that Americans will chow down swill- the worse, the better. And unfortunately they're 60% right.

They're following you too, eh?

I have to say, if JM was such a great show and concept and if it was all above board, why are some of the women trying to sue FOX because of public humiliation and fraud?

That paranoid thing is sticking you know...
