Abbyshot have released their version of Mal's jacket. It's expensive ($452) but the pics look pretty damn shiny!

I think it's a combination of 3 things, the fact the jacket is slightly too light, Mal's jacket is usually in less natural light than the photos and Mal's has seen several years of wear, whereas this version is brand new.

Mal's may have seen several years of wear in the show but in real life I'm assuming that it was created only shortly before they started filming. Unless Mal's coat was actually manufactured for commercially and they just found it for Firefly, in which case why can't I go buy one of those instead of paying exorbitant amounts of money for the "official" coat.

I paid just a *tish* under $300 for my browncoat boots because they're quality work ... mmmm Italian leather. That coat ain't $600 of quality - they're banking on geeks with credit cards saying farewell to any common sense.
