Out or sheer curiosity, are there any Pete and Pete fans amongst the Browncoats? Besides me and my sons that is?

No relation to Firefly, but one of the recurring characters was played by Michelle Trachtenberg, later of Buffy. I think it was her first acting job as she couldn't have been more than nine or ten years old at the time.

I loved Pete and Pete! It was kinda trippy for a teenybopper TV show. The first season DVD set is on my Netflix queue.

Michelle Trachtenberg did an episode or two of Clarissa Explains it All before she did Pete and Pete. She was a kid from hell and Clarissa had to babysit her. I am such an old school Nickelodeon fangeek.

I used to look like the girl who played Ellen on Pete and Pete. In 7th grade people who were even geekier than me used to call me Ellen. Hell, as far as I know I still could look like her, but she hasn't been on TV at all since Pete and Pete.

I miss her. And Sam from Clarissa... they were my favorites.

I'm all nostalgic now. Now I'm remembering other classics such as Hey Dude and Salute Your Shorts.

That period was sort of a golden age for Nick, eh? Wasn't Ren and Stimpy going on at about the same time? So many of those shows really split the line between being kids shows, yet a venue for some really talented, and delightfully twisted, creative talent.

I have a lot of the Pete and Pete eps on my computer and a good friend landed a great garage sale find and bought me a vhs copy of "My Little Viking", the two part episode where Artie leaves. It's my favorite, followed closely by "X=Why?", "Hard Day's Pete", and "Time Tunnel".

I sometimes wonder how they managed to get so many funky cameo appearances on there. I could make a list, but it would be long. But mostly I just loved the stories. One in particular, "The Call", had a really subtle message about what happens to adults when they give up their dreams. There was always something like that under the surface, but the metaphor was always a delightful find and not something they beat you over the head with.

Any Pete and Pete fans?! I LOVED that show. I had a friend find and burn the theme song for me a few years ago. If only I could understand what they're singing...

I saw a review for the DVD set in Entertainment Weekly, but I've never seen it anywhere. They gave it an A-, I think.

Ah.. yes. That third line is a source of perpetual mystery. I'd almost forgotten about all wonderful music on there. Hell, half of the supporting cast, especially when you consider the cameos, were famous musicians. I loved that they had Iggy Pop cast as Nona's father... and she always called him 'Pop'. :)

Last night I watched X=Why? Wasn't that Gordon Gano as one of the math substitutes?

Was this a series about me and my split personality (also named Pete)?

Seriously though, what was it about? I've never heard of it

It was, among other things, a show centering around two brothers, both named Pete, who faced the trials and tribulations we all face now and then; love, hate, local superheroes living in portaloos, and the occasional conflict with the Open Face sandwich villain.

Because of that show, I became obsessed with the lives of ice cream truck workers. I mean, what DO they do in October?

Pete and Pete ran during the "Golden Days" of Nickelodeon... Ren and Stimpy (when it was funny), Salute Your Shorts, Clarissa Explains it All, Are You Afraid of The Dark?, (the original) Family Double-Dare, Secret World of Alex Mack... a few more, but now I'm getting all nostalgic for all these old shows. Darnit!

oh right

Shame, I would like to see what it was like but I don't think Nick would show it now. Still, I've got plenty of other things to watch - it's pointless thinking about one more show

True, Nick woudln't show it now, even if they got some kind of renewed fan interest. The humor was normal for the early 90's... but now? It's just too off the wall. Or something. Maybe if Michelle Trachtenberg herself publicly asked the Nick execs to re-air it. That might do it. But other than the divine intervention of a big name like hers... I feel the DVD's and .torrents are the only way we're going to see the classics now.
