I know Georgia isn't one of the states that was severely hit by the hurricane, but it seems with the proximity of Atlanta to the areas that were so effected it could have made some serious impacts on the convention?

Anybody heard anything?

LETOV

The state experienced some fairly strong storms and a number of tornados, but at this point we're looking pretty good. Lovely weather out there today actually.

Biggest impact is gas prices and shortages. If you're driving, be prepared to pay twice what you expected for fuel...

"Appears they've cancelled the show and we're still here. What does that make us?"
"Big damn junkies, Sir!"
"Ain't we just."

Also, if you're flying in, you'll want to check your flight. I hear that flights have been cancelled in the region due to fuel shortages.

No need to panic gorramit. Measures are being taken, we had some minor panic that caused gas prices to run up a bit, but all in all its good.

Dragon-con has a good track on not being disrupted by hurricanes. Hell last year we had a lot of people drive up as "refugees" who decided if they had to sit out the storms, they might as well do it in ATL.

Everything seems to be going smoothly. I found plentiful (if expensive) gasoline just off I-20 in Georgia. Many Browncoats ran into each other at the Marriott. I ate with Browncoat1 and his wife, their friend Sharon, Jadehand, XanderHarris, and Diz. Many others are already here.

So, no worries.

AVER

I'm so glad so many of you made it. I decided to cancel my plans to attend at the last minute because I got spooked about getting stranded in Atlanta on Monday because of not being able to buy enough gas to get home. A trifle paranoid, perhaps, and I hate to waste the reg. fee, but my kindergarteners are counting on me to be there on Tuesday! I have to admit that a lot of the juice had gone out of my anticipation since Joss announced he wasn't going to be there, and then Nathan and Summer canceled, plus six and a half hour drive each way...all pointed to not going as a good plan. I do look forward to hearing all about it, though, and I'm sure second-guessing and jealousy will set in when I do :)

I chatted with a nice old couple who came up as refugees last year. They were pretty freaked out by the con. When we said David Carradine was there they were like "ohhh now we get it!" they didn't recognize any other names.

The impact it has had on me is this: the price of gasoline. I cant afford the stay in Atlanta AND the drive to Atlanta. So I have to stay home as a result. Have fun to those that do attend.
