I avoided these boards (with difficulty) in the 2-3 weeks leading up to the movie, so if any of this was covered back then, please forgive me for being repetitive.

Spoilers for the third-and-last issue with these questions:

At the end, the Blue Gloves come 'round for one last pass at Serenity as Mal, Zoe, and Jayne are returning to the ship. Wash steps on the gas, Serenity zooms away, and our friends in blue seem to go tumbling out of control. Then, next we see them, their bodies are fried to a cinder.

What happened? Was that done by being so close to Serenity's engine? 'Cause their ship still looks more or less intact. I loved the artwork, from first page to last, but I guess I'm woefully out of practice at the art of following comic book action (the last one I read regularly was Amazing Spiderman, back when Todd McFarlane was working on it).

The second question was, did they end up getting the money they were after on the derelict? After the shootout with Dobson, you see 'em leave, but I don't see anything in there about them getting the loot, which was the whole reason for going in the first place!

Also, what was everyone's final opinions on the series, after finishing the last one? I loved the chance to read any new tale with our BDH, but I was a little disappointed by how short the whole thing ended up being. Put that story on film, I doubt it takes up more than 25-30 minutes. I guess I was expecting something with a little more depth and length to it.

But the main thing that really bothered me about them was that they were advertised beforehand as being written by Joss, then you open the cover and see "Story by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews; Script by Brett Matthews." I really like the episode "Heart of Gold" that Matthews wrote, but still, I went into the comics thinking I was getting something penned by the man himself, and that turned out not to be the case--and at times, I felt like it really showed.

Overall, though, I liked them, and have read the series several times so far, and am already looking forward to the TPB, so I have it all inside one cover, and without all the ads.

Yeah, they were toasted by Serenity's engine, and no, they didn't get paid

It was a great connection between the series and the BDM-Chrisisall
