Something just struck me, while placing a report of user abuse at IMDb for a troll who claimed outright to be abusing the system in his post.

I thought about it, and suddenly I realize how IMDb works:

Reviews. They only count points on Reviews.

Therefore, it behooves everyone who want a renewal or sequel to firefly/serenity to go and write a review for the movie on IMDb.

Please don't abuse the system, or they'll change this, but honest heartfelt reviews by people who geniuinely liked the movie would help push it up.

At the moment, troll reviews bring Serenity down. It's target score is 9.1, but it's sitting currently at 8.5, and threatening to find it's way down to 7.8.

Another item in the mix is "Top 1000 reviews" and if anyone has a top 1000 account, it would behoove them even more to place a review of the film on imdb.

It would be nice to have Serenity break 100, and essential that it stay within the top 250.

Here are some additional thoughts on ways in which IMDb's "secret" formula may be weighted:

Geographical distribution. Solution: Have someone you know in an unlikely location, alaska, hawaii, some foreign country, write a review.

Age distribution. Solution: You're mom or dad like the show? Have them write one.

Distribution over time. Solution. Keep people posting reviews over a long period of time.

Number of reviews posted by each user. Solution: Review some other films, beef up your weight on imdb.

In case people want to flame this, I have a couple ready made responses.

Q. Why should firefly fans boost the film's rating on IMDb?

A. Because it will help encourage a sequel or the renewal of the show.

Q. Isn't that unfair? I mean wouldn't it be cheating?

A. No, you saw and liked the movie, you have the right. Also, please bear in mind that the troll, who did not actually see the film, are doing so in force.

Q. What do you like work for IMDb or something.

A. No. But it's all we've got to work with at the moment for rating besides Amazon sales rank. I suppose another thing one could do is if one is buying the series as a gift for someone, if they buy it from Amazon, that boosts the sales rank, another very visible measure of success. No I don't work for Amazon either.
