An older thread discussed some of the continuities between the Firefly series and the BDM.

Here's another that I noticed on watching the series pilot again the other day.

The last scene of the pilot episode involves a discussion between Mal and Simon on the bridge. The exchange goes, "We're still flying." "That's not much." "It's enough."

The last scene of the movie involves a discussion between Mal and River on the bridge. The exchange goes (paraphrasing Mal's speech), "Love is why we're still flying." "The storm's getting worse." "We'll be through it soon enough."

Discounting the little joke that follows in the movie, these two scenes seem eerily similar. Yet they're different; Mal has changed some, but the real difference is that now River can participate in place of her brother. Very nice.

Another thing I noticed after re-watching the first three episodes is that Mal's darker side was more evident in the series than I remember. There's really not that much difference between the movie Mal and the Mal of the series. Remember, he was ready to shove Simon out the airlock in the pilot. Considering the events in the movie (and the tough times in the interval between series and movie, as documented in the comics and hinted at in the first scenes aboard Serenity in the movie), it's not so hard to see why Mal is a bit testy.

Third item -- Summer's amazin' ability to change the quality of her voice, especially in scenes where she's scared or (emotionally) wounded. The little-girl sound of the line "You've always taken care of me" contrasted with the grown-up determination in the awesome line that follows is a great example in the movie, but she did the same thing many times in the series. Wonderful stuff.

Anyone else have any similar epiphanies?
