If Universal agreed right now to make a sequel, what effect would that have on Serenity's box office? Would the thought of another movie on the horizon make more people want to see Serenity?

On the same train of thought, what if they announced a sequel around Dec. 20th? What would that do for DVD sales?

It would have virtually no effect. The only people who would hear about it would be the Browncoats, who've already been doing all they can (keep it up, though).

And it's doubtful Uni would make such a decision at this point. Maybe after DVD sales start to rack up, but definitely not before. Unless the film suddenly makes $40 million in Japan or something.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Agreed. Announcing a sequel now would not affect the #s at all. Fans are going to see it, and they are the ones that would be excited about the sequel the most, but the uninitiated are the ones that are not going to check out "Serenity". They are the ones we need to get into theatres.

You're probably right. I just thought that a promise of another film might help push the current one, but like you said people have to know another is going to be made, and unless you regularly check things like that online, you'd never hear about it.
