I keep seeing people post that they have lent their DVD set to their friends. If you really want to see the sales of the DVD go up, quit lending them the entire set.

I am planning to start lending the first DVD of my set out to potential fans and then tell them to go buy the set if they want to see more.

In my opinion, few will watch the first three episodes and not want to see more. I may even hand out bonus points to my students who take it home to watch.

Excellent idea! I unknowingly did this when I loaned the first DVD to my Mom. I would only let her have the first one, because I couldn't bear to part with the others, so I could watch them. (I was still waiting for my next set to arrive.) She loved it so much, she wanted to see more... so I bought her a set. But I'll bet other people will be inspired to buy their own!

I'm going to try that strategy with my brothers, who are Star Wars fans.... they will like this sooooo much better!

Thanks!

I think this may turn off a lot of people.

I've loaned my Firefly DVDs out and have had many go out and buy them after the fact just because they want to re-watch them.

Refusing to loan out the other discs just fosters a poor attitude about the show even if they do enjoy the first few episodes.

I had never paid much attention to Firefly when it was on the air (Fox not Scifi). I had caught a few eps, but I guess I never gave it a chance. Then when the movie was announced a co-worker offered to lend me his DVD set. So I get it and I was in the process of ripping the first disk when I actually watched it. After really seeing it I stopped the ripping and went right out to Best Buy and got my own. Now I'm hooked and the series is in limbo...

After I got my mom a DVD player, I lent her my set to "test the player out" Like most people who see it for the first time, she couldn't stop after just one episode. After she borrowed my set 3 times, she went out and bought her own.

Tommorow I'm going to put disc 1 into the new TV/DVD we got in the breakroom at work. Lets see if I can get some more people hooked.
