MACKENSON

I've lurked on these boards for quite a while. I am a Firefly fan from the 1st run of the series--from the very first moments of "The Train Job". I've watched and rewatched the DVD's with my family ... my wife and kids are fans as well.

I saw the movie with some trepidation and was thrilled. It was, to me, very nearly perfect.

I've watched these boards devolve a bit, particularly with the disappointing box office. To me, it's all gravy. I have a DVD set with 15 episodes, every one of which contains laugh-out-loud moments, genuine human emotion, nifty adventure, and a wonderful set of characters. I will soon have a movie on DVD that is an excellent continuation of the story, and ends in a way that feels like a resolution and a new beginning at the same time.

I would welcome new movies or a new series, but I also know that sometimes short-lived stars are ones that shine the brightest. I can think of more than a few genre franchises that should have quit while they were ahead.

So ... rather than despairing over I might never have, I can be happy with this star that flared briefly and brightly. I can enjoy feeling like part of a small fraternity of intelligent, like-minded fans.

Mal and his crew are out there aboard Serenity. They're just scrapin' by, picking up the odd job here and there, staying out of the way of the alliance, sometimes getting into one mess or another. Occasionally, things are good and they can sit around the dining table laughing over old times and remembering lost friends.

They're out there, even if I'm not there to see them.

EMBERS

well if you have been lurking all this time then you know that we aren't going anywhere...
people get discouraged,
but there will always be new things...
after the DVDs we'll get some more novelizations,
and more comic books...
and I'm betting money that in two years Universal will have green-lit a sequel, it is inevitable IMO

so we'll all just enjoy what we've got,
which is quite a bit.

I feel the same way about it...Joss' work moves me, whatever tune he's playing, and I think he'll be adding more verses to this one soon enough.

Glad you decided to de-cloak and share your thoughts.
