Today I saw Serenity for the 3rd time (yay). I just have to say, it's still great!

Anyways, I saw it at a second-run theater. The crowd was pretty thick.

So I got to thinking. This could save Serenity!

Sure the ticket price is cheap. But it's something! I know people who don't see ANYTHING at a movie theater, until it's in a second-run theater.

Also, it's easier to convert browncoats. Don't want to spend $10 on a ticket for each person? Spend $2! They'll want to see it too.

I know for a fact that the people in my theater weren't browncoats, and hadn't seen the movie. I heard people asking each other what it was about, etc. But they liked it!

Spoiler!

At Wash's death scene, I heard a few people in back of me shout "no!!" I also heard them shout "Kaylee" and "Simon!" when both of them got shot. They clearly were into the movie.

And this may translate into good DVD sales. The Firefly box set has been doing phenominally well on Amazon. People who like it now will buy the DVD. People will wait to get it on DVD. DVD sales will push up how much Serenity makes by a long run.

Good theory? Bad? discuss.

It's a good theory - a lot of people unwilling to shell out $10 for something they've never heard of may be willing to take a chance on it at a lower price.

But, it needs to stay in the theatres long enough to get attention.

It stayed in my local second run theatre exactly one week. It felt almost like they were rushing it through. Serenity was added the week after it was pulled from the regular theatres and was only given one showing a day, typically around here there's a few weeks between a movie leaving the regular theatre and appearing in the second run theatre (unless it's a major film that the regular theatres have hung on to ie. War of the Worlds, LOTR) and they at least get more than one showing a day.

Felt like it was being rushed - maybe to make way for the DVDs?

Hell with this; I'm gonna live! - Kaylee "Serenity"

It hasn't made it to the second-run theater here, but if it does, I will definitely go see it a few times, and I have a bunch of friends who will go with me. Honestly, I think the DVD sales will help more than the second-run theater sales, but they definitely won't hurt!

I mean, DVD sales will go up because people who didn't give it a chance in the normal theater will go see it in a second-run theater, like it, and that will boost the DVD sales. I personally think that the DVD sales will be really good.

It's not at my local second-run theater. This was just the closest one to my house, and it was about a 40 minute drive.

At my local theater, which IS going to have the movie (I checked on their website), there are a lot of regular theater goers. Some people won't go to any other theater (including one of my close friends). If we can get a lot of people to go to that, then they might buy DVDs, which will help Serenity a lot.
