Anyone else watch and enjoy Deadwood? The music and feel of the show remind me of Firefly but it is decidedly different. I've only seen the first season so far and really like it. The kids have to be fully asleep before I will put it on though, the swearing is vulgar, loud and often :)

I am a HUGE Deadwood fan.. love the show.. violence, swearing and all. It is like Shakespear to me.. When I first heard the Firefly music (I am a latecomer to this party) I looked up the composer and then checked against Deadwood cus they do sound similar.. and I really like the music.. not the same person.. but definitely the same feel.

Own season one on DVD.. awaiting seaon 2 on DVD and season 3 on HBO...

this is one smart, hard show... and one where it's best NOT to pick up the swear words...:-)
There is a cd of the Deadwood music that has some verbal intros from the show.. they are definitely X rated.. lol but man I love them... especially when Wu says...

And, originally, Inara was going to be more Deadwood-esque. Has anyone seen Family Guy's Deadwood spoof? Two cowboys sitting on a log, looking at playboys, "anything yet?" "nope."

"That's why I never kiss 'em on the mouth."

Seen them both. It's not even close. Deadwood is crap compared to Firefly.

HEY! Maybe we could talk HBO into going to series.

Amazing fruit. As splendid in their differences as their similarities.

Speaking of yummy, I gobbled Deadwood in the same greedy way as FF. I partly chose it in the vidstore because of FF *hmmm...nouveau western, ok, I'll bite* then watched 3 eps the first night, and finished the series in 3 days, and went back and re-experienced several eps. I absolutely loved the interview thing with David Milch. Watched it twice, the man's a genius, and his thoughts on the show made me like it even more. I wish more director/producers would understand how to make a thrilling product in the way Joss, Milch, and Altman do...get great actors, tell them what you want, then stand back a little to give them room to DO it. Wonderful depth to the characters, well crafted dialogue, a plentitude of arcs, risk factor, and an interesting setting...all my favorite things.

The language, oh my. I've been known to swear like a trucker, but the language in this thing is very sharp.

I can hardly wait for Season II of Deadwood. I like the way the cable people don't kill the goose by only making 13 or so eps in a season. Joss is the only one who can almost pull off a whole broadcast season. Sorry! sorry! *dons flak jacket* but every season of BTVS and Angel has at least a couple of hounds and papillions for me.

Deadwood is terribly good. Lots of excellent characters and actors to play them.

Can't wait for season two to get onto DVD.

I'm glad i'm not alone in my liking of Deadwood.

You get the feeling that no character is safe, much the same as in Joss's shows, makes it more real to me.

Its a pity about..

Of course, with all the major events being utterly historical, it had to happen at some point. That being said, yes, I liked him too.

What always makes me laugh about it though is the thought of Jane, known as Calamity, the foulest-mouthed woman in all the West (puts Morena to shame! ), being diluted into chirpy Doris Day singing about the Deadwood stagecoach.

Haven't watched it yet, but I'm getting it for Christmas because I don't feel like spending $110 of my own money on a DVD box set that isn't related to Firefly or Serenity. It looks good though, and I am relieved that a realistic western has finally come out besides Bonanza or some crap like that.

Muhahhaha Calamity Jane! Isnt she hilarious! It'd be a brave man brought her home to meet the parents :)

As for your Doris Day reference, i'm guessing its to an old time western movie of some sort?

RelF, according to imdb, the Doris Day movie was released in 1953. Comments are interesting. Why not find this, watch it for us, and report back?
Heh.

Not bloody likely.

I'm not really sure what the Doris Day film is, exactly... it's just the idea of a chirpy musical featuring Calamity Jane singing makes cringe.

Give me Deadwood the series anytime.

Oich.

The Doris Day version is a product of its time.

Good musical numbers and Doris Day shines. Not so much with the accuracy or history though.

Here's a DD fansite with a good write-up of the show.

It's the 'hallelujah' of the modern age, as used by the Reverend Johnny Wallet of The Church Of The Eleventh Finger.

...aka Jonathon Woodward, who played Tracey in 'The Message'. When he is a guest at conventions, like the recent Serenity Squared, he leads 'communion' on the Sunday morning where the audience all get a mouthful of the sacramental whiskey and are blessed with a squiggle on the forehead drawn in... you guessed it... whiskey. He yells 'bukkake!' and everyone in the room responds loudly. That's why my tag quote is what it is... parodying the line from 'The Message'.

He's a crazy guy, but completely hi-larious.

I'm honestly surprised you've not heard of this before. People have been yelling 'bukkake!' in threads all over the place for the last week and a bit.

Heh..thats pretty funny. I like J.M.W. as an actor. The odd thing is, someone had posted his website at buffy.nu (now whedon.info) and when I went to it I noticed he is also from Maine and HE WAS BORN ON THE SAME DAMN DAY/MONTH/YEAR as me. How weird is that?

Anyhow...if you wanna know what bukkake means..do a google image search..its about as raunchy and gross as it gets. *18 and over plz*

If J.M.W. knows what it means..he is a bad boy
