I recently downloaded the River Tam sessions and there was something that caught my ear. I don't know if this question has been brought up before, I didn't see it. So if it has I apologize. The Doctor that is interviewing River sounds a lot like Joss himself. When I was watching the extras on the DVD and listening to the commentary Joss gives, I was enthralled by his voice; gentle, calm, and he lisps his S's ever so slightly. So after watching the River sessions a second time, I noticed the same calm and gentle voice with a slight lisp to his S's. Was it him? Does anyone know?

Yes it was. Although I think his voice in the sessions is a bit more menacing than his normal voice. Slightly more guttural.

Aye, it was indeed more menacing, I agree. Thanks for clearing that up Khyron. I had a feeling it was him indeed.

Does anyone happen to know the story as to why they recorded them? Were they supposed to appear in later episodes in later seasons if the show had gotten its run?

Yeppers,
Joss used it as a viral marketing tool. Meaning, they filmed it in a day and then put it out via internet to spread a buzz about the movie. If you search around and google it you can find out more.
