...okay, maybe not 10, I think I'm up to about 6 now, for the movie (including when it was in theaters)...

Early in the film, during the bank heist. Mal reaches into the smaller safe so he can open the bigger one downstairs. There's an old guy standing there, and he says to Mal, something like, "Y'all are broancoats, aren't ya? Fought for the Independents?"

Listen to that line again... that voice sounds an awful lot like Joss.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Joss would dub a single line of dialogue himself-- Mel Brooks did it the original "Producers"-- but has this been discussed already? Maybe I'm just hearing things, but particularly the second sentence sounds an awful lot like Joss doing an old guy's voice....

Hallucinating Again,

Joss has confirmed that he did dub in his voice for that character (listen to him jokingly lavish praise on the voice during the commentary. Hee!). They'd originally just stuck it in as a temp sound during the rough cut, but got so used to it they forgot to replace it.

Congrats on catching that yourself. I remember having an odd feeling about that voice when I heard it in the theater, but never figured out it was Joss' until I read it somewhere.

I had a similar "not quite right" feeling about the pan from Mal to Simon as they head downstairs in the long opening "oner". I never put my finger on what seemed odd about it. Later I learned that's where the join is between the two long continuous shots that make up that sequence.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

Right? I had an odd feeling about that pan in the early scene as well, except my thought was more like, "Oh GREAT, everyone is gonna say that there was a cut, but I know Joss is so cool that he did the scene without one..."

I'm still kind of upset that I was wrong about the cut, but catching Joss's voice kinda does make me feel like a nerdy superfan. This means Joss has now appeared in all of his own TV shows (except Roseanne, if that even counts)...

A radio voice in the first season of "Buffy," as Numfar in the 2nd season of "Angel," as a funeral attendee on "Firefly," and now this.

Subtle.

I dig subtle.
