Ok we all know that serenity should have at least gotten nominations in all the technical categories, and how it how it didn't get a nom. at the sag awards for best ensemble, i'll never know,,, but think about this:Universal released munich, king kong, and cinderella man this year... which are the movies they spent ALL their money on campaigning ..... they spent all their money on movies everyone has seen , and left our baby out in the cold! i hate to say it , but is universal the new fox???

Very No. They are a film company that did a very unfilm-company thing by funding Serenity in the first place. In fact, they're very special and should be applauded.
Extra marketing for Serenity would not have done much extra for its box office - sad but true - it's just not that kind of movie and would never appeal to that kind of general audience (just us mudders) and that really shouldn't suprise anyone any where.

I still like to blame it all on Jessica Alba.
But that's me.

I slightly disagree with that (or perhaps agree, but with different wording). I think Serenity is the kind of movie that would interest a general--and very diverse--audience. But it's the kind of movie that, on the surface, you know, don't look like much. But she'll surprise you.

It's one of those things that more people would get into the more people just gave it a chance, but it's that initial hurdle of "giving it a chance" that makes it so difficult. KF

Lord, I'm walking your way. Let me in, for my feet are sore, my clothes are ragged.
Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins will play out on them as on a screen. Read them all.
Forgive what you can and send me on my path. I will walk on until you bid me rest.

I slightly agree with your slight disagreement - I should have said, "spending more money on more of the same marketing would not have made much difference."

I think the show has a chance at broader appeal than the movie, but neither imo has the potential for real broad, Star Wars/Star Trek kind of appeal. Just not that kind of warm and fuzzy, easy to digest, alien and spaceship-rific Scifi for the masses.
