LUCIDZ

Hi, I've been a lurker of this site and a few others for a good while just to follow the status of the much prayed for rebirth of the little sci fi show that could.

But after reading so many threads which I wanted to respond to, I finally registered today so I can throw a bit more hope on the pile.

First, a bit of backstory (who doesn't like exposition!). I am a reader of many online movie sites. I was absolutely disgusted with how many times I had to read about some loser Joss Whedon and the dorky-ass fan base of people who religiously followed him around.

I'm not someone who ever watches tv, i'm always far too busy, so firefly escaped my radar completely.

Everytime a new "Joss" post came up or another article about some stupid movie no one ever heard of serenity coming, I just rolled my eyes and groaned.

Finally serenity came out and it was the only thing that weekend I felt like seeing. Being that I like sci fi, I figured what the heck. Me and my fiance both walked in knowing nothing about it..........

I was hooked instantly. I mean instantly. The first 2 minutes and I don't think I allowed myself to blink for the rest of the movie.

I instantly became a champion for it, telling everyone I could to go see it. My fiance got the dvd set of firefly as a present for me, and I literally took several days off work, and watched every frame of every disk except...... I didn't have disk 1???? They sent me one with two copies of disk 2!!! Like any good fan did I take my copy back? NO, I bought another so I could see disk 1!

When serenity came out i of course bought the disk at lunch and have watched it I don't know how many times. I've farmed it out to my coworkers shamelessly letting them borrow it and forcing them to watch it, and like it dammit!

Ok now onto the super cheesy section of my post...
I've been working towards being an amateur filmmaker for a few years. I'd been writing for years and have 2 novels and a bunch of short stories under my belt (nothin published). It felt like the next step.

I spent about 1 year accumulating equipment. Camera, mics, lights, tripod, everything professional, probably 8 or 9 K worth of stuff. I tried to shoot a film end of last year but it just didn't come togethor.

Then a sci fi festival came around and I knew I wanted to enter. I got talent, crew, everything then, suddenly my main talent had a fire at his house, and my costar got a paying gig that lasted a month.

Down to the wire I decided to give up, I only had 2 weeks left in what was a 3 month project, oh, and I was moving out of my apartment of 3 years into a house.

Laying in bed one night after watching an episode of firefly yet again during dinner, I thought about Joss and how he could get serenity off the ground and thought, if he could do that I need to get off my ass even if the end result is shite.

So I got everyone togethor and figured out the only day ppl were available was jan 22, the exact same day I needed to move. Screw it, I'm doin it anyway. So I spent those two weeks bartering time between my full time job, moving out of the apartment, and shooting/editing the film.

Ok, so It turned out crap, lol. I simply didn't have the time to do the reshoots nessecary. The first 5 minutes make sense and look fine but the last one is a complete disintegration of coherence.

The important thing in all my ramblings is that even though it wasn't perfect, it was finished and I made it. And I attribute a great part of that to Joss and his overcoming idiotic studios.

So anyway, thats my rather lengthy story, I look forward to posting here much more often and hanging out with you awesome people!

Mal: You know, they say mercy is the mark of a great man.
[stabs the man]
Mal: Guess I'm just a good man.
[stabs him again]
Mal: Well, I'm all right.

NUCLEARDAY

howdy, Lucidz, always makes my day to see another browncoat raising their voice. (and it's good to see a long post now and then, makes me feel better about running my own mouth off so much :) My own browncoat's still a little on the green side, but my short time here, seems like there's been more and more of us coming out of the woodwork.

Also, I understand completely what you mean about our little show helping you out in the creative sense. I've posted about it elsewhere so I'll be short(ish.:) Myself, I'd been battling various forms of writer's block for about four years before I got wind of Firefly a la Serenity. Somewhere between disks two and three of the boxed set, I finally decided to try and put pencil to paper again. Guess all it takes sometimes is the right sort of spark, and Firefly seems to be quite capable of that.

Anyways, glad to see you in our little corner of the 'verse, and good to know there'll be one more browncoat holding the line with us when Mal returns ;p

Welcome, Lucidz! We are glad you are here to hang out and talk with us too!

*hands Lucidz a Browncoat* ...hmmm, I seem to be doing that a lot today... I love handing out Browncoats.

Seems like Firefly either inspires or changes folks forever after they see it and fall in love.
Keep spreading the Firefly love, I do indeed love all the new 'coats comin' onboard!

I've been noticing that. I'm glad we have such a devoted Browncoat manning (personning) the uniform dispersal duties. Every new flan needs one!

Oops, almost forgot -- welcome Lucidz! Chow's at ten, no need to dress.

I don't disagree on any particular point.
