Okay... maybe I'm a moron or something, but what the hell did Mal do to the operative at the end of the movie? At first I thought he broke his neck or back, or arms or something. Yet a few days later he's fine. What's the deal?

Don't know, but...

What does Mal mumble (in Chinese?) after Dong Luh Mah at the end of the opening oner of Serenity? He's talking to Simon, say's Dong Luh Mah, turns and keeps talking!

I believe, from the position he holds him in, and the popping noise, that he dislocated his shoulders... Though excruciatingly painful, I believe you're mostly ok after they've been popped back in...

You are correct in assuming that was what happened. Normally the move is done from behind, but the effect is the same you pop both shoulders out making the arms pretty useless. That and it hurts like a mother... Once popped back into place they will still be sore, and more likly to pop back out, but you'll be fine.

Besides if they can sew an ear back good as new well...

Radar out

The whole phrase was Dong Luh Mah?, Ni cho lyen, yo mei yo? Translation - Are we clear here? Do you have a worried face?

I wondered this myself, as I'm just finishing up an article on the fight choreography. My conclusion was similar- I ended up calling it a reverse nelson that tears the shoulders like a surfboard in wrestling. When watching the movie, I initially thought he was trying to break the neck. At any rate, I think we're dealing with movie-fu.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

That's what it looked like to me too. And they're right about it happening more to him later in life. I had a roomie in college who was a rodeo clown and his shoulders popped out all the time, especially when we were playing basketball. Pretty gross, trust me.

Yup, it'll be more likely to happen later in life, and it'll happen a lot more easily. I've got first-hand experience, having had both of mine dislocated in a motorcycle wreck about 25 years ago. Ahhhhh... good times. ;)

Well there is no denying that, but I was just curious about how he did it.
