Firefly would make an excellent CCG, don't you think? For those of you who don't know, a CCG is a collectible Card Game. The first was Magic the Gathering in 1993. The concept consists of packing cards, much like baseball cards, in limited amounts. Players buy the cards and then follow the rules of the game to construct a deck. They then take those decks to compete against other players. The cards look shiny and can be used to play the game. The more cards you have, generally the better your chances of winning. "Collectors" just want a complete set.

We've seen a couple fan-based efforts at a Firefly CCG. However, I am part of a group of individuals who publish games for free over the Internet, though linking to our website would kill it's bandwith so I won't at the moment. We think there is huge potential in a Firefly CCG both now and in the future. As seasoned members of the gaming community, and having played dozens of CCGs while being passionate Browncoats, we feel like we could do a Firefly CCG justice.

So what's the problem? Remember how I said we release our games for free? Well, money is a problem. CCGs are expensive. First, there is licensing. In the case of Firefly, licensing from both 20th Centruy Fox and Universal is required to get all the Verse. Paying people to design the game, the art, handle legal issues, and market the game are other problems. Then there's the cost of printing cards. Some figures have suggested just printing demo decks, not even a full set, can run towards $200k.

Obviously, this is a very costly endeavor, but one we feel would pay off for potential investors. We just don't know who those investors might be or how to contact them. So I open this up to the community, what are your thoughts on making a Firefly CCG a reality?

Has done some amazing work and I'd hire him if I were you. I'd definately pay money for his cards. Very creative stuff IMO. Good luck on the licensing (yargh!). Be it known, all of the original executives involved in cancelling Firefly are no longer at Fox.
