The "Bushites" represent the Alliance in many ways. The last thing they want to be promoting/supporting is a show centered around a group of rebels who buck the system every chance they get.
Quote:Carlyle Joins Davis in Vivendi Offer Mar 1, 2003 SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) The Carlyle Group, one of the world's top private equity firms, has joined with oil tycoon Marvin Davis and others in a bid to buy U.S. entertainment assets of media giant Vivendi Universal, the Los Angeles Times reported on Saturday. The Carlyle Group, whose advisors have included former U.S. President George Bush and former British Prime Minister John Major, has teamed up with Davis and private equity firms Bain Capital and Texas Pacific Group to buy a controlling interest in Vivendi's assets. The media giant's U.S. entertainment assets include Universal's movie studio, theme parks and music company. www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?noframes;read=29358

Released just prior to 9-11 I believe, the pilot episode shows one of the LG looking a computer simulation of a plane flying into skyscrapers. Don't recall if it was the WTC or not. Cancelled after 6 episodes. Does that seem right to you?

Quote:There was no government ban on any songs, either demanded or even requested. Many individual stations decided not to air certain songs that they considered inappropriate and some large chains shared lists with their program directors in case some songs hadn't been thought of before they were aired...but the decisions were at our local leverls, not even corporate.

To give a completely non-9/11 comparison, when the Pope was shot one automated country station is supposed to have followed the newscast with the song "Drop-Kick me Jesus Through the Goal Post of Life". Would you want to be the guy responsible for that? If you want to slam the media there's plenty to work with that is true; use the conference call that Clear Channel had with all of their program directors 2 or 3 days after the WTC fell where the head of the company instructed us to milk 9/11 for every ratings point we could.

We couldn't sell ads to save our lives at my radio station; Cheap Channel had already slashed staff by 30% twice before 9/11. After that day advertising was completely dead for over a year. As stated earlier in this thread, something like politics is economics in action. And economics sometimes happen without politics. With no money coming in media execs were going batsh!t no matter what their politics were and were killing anything out of the ordinary in order to protect themselves with "cost-cuting measures". We don't need to look for right-wing conspiracies here, just incompetent decisions from suits worried about the bottom line and about covering their @sses.

I know Gene Roddenberry was always trying to make political statements, but I don't see those here. Sure, there are good messages to get out of it, but this show was not out to change the world. It's entertainment. Fox just made another stupid decision on this one. No consipiracy. Sorry.
