YORIK

Hello. Yorik here... New user to the threads. I have a story that I'd like to share:

Not TOO long ago, I stumbled across Serenity and Firefly. (More details in personal info.)

I have been burdened with severe anger problems and depression... Some can say I have extreme yin and yang. Anywho, the other day, I was having one of my 'fits' (I shake, think horrible thoughts, sob) and decided I'd watch Serenity for the first time after seeing all the episodes (this would make the 3rd time I've seen it)... While watching the movie, I got better, felt better, relaxed, and really enjoyed myself. Since I am becoming a BUFF in the 'Verse, watching this made me very happy. I was fine after that and was suprised at how calm I was. If I could personally thank Joss Whedon for creating something that fits my tastes in television, I would. So, from now on, Serenity and Firefly will be my 'calm', since I cannot take medications for fear of being kicked out of the NAVY. It's all a complicated process...

I just thought I'd share on how Joss Whedon has helped me out...

...A man wanders into a dark alley. Hes thin. Looks as if he hasn't eaten in days. Theres a figure in a dark corner. The man shuffles over to it. "You got some stuff? Please! I gotta have some stuff!!"

The figure looks at him. Raises the sleave of his long brown jacket and pulls out a fresh copy of the BDM dvd.

"Oh thank you. You don't know how much I need this."

The figure" Yeah, thats what they all say. Now give me the the coin and get lost."

The man" Really I'm trying to quit,I just can't."

The figure " Sure, we all are. Now go!"

The man "Ok...but one last thing. Do you have a tv I can buy to watch it on?"

Yorik, we feel your addiction
Welcome aboard

It's nice to see that Firefly brought you serenity.

One day.
One mission.
One army of Browncoats.

On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

I know what you mean! I am going through a very nasty divorce (on his side, not mine) my Grandmother has passed and I have been diagnosed with Severe Asthma. I work 2 jobs and have taken in a stray teenager to add to my 2.

Life for me is very hard at the moment. When I need to recenter and power down, I put in a dvd. Firefly, Serenity, doesn't matter. The love and care they have for each other just fills something up inside and I am ready for the world again!

Nathan doesn't know it yet, but I am his one true love! Is that weird?
(he will believe, he will believe)

I can definitely relate to the depression. I've had to deal with mine for almost ten years now.

The wonderful thing about Firefly is how it makes you feel apart of something greater, whether you're watching the show or talking to fellow Browncoats. Even though other people might not understand my obsession with the show, for me it's been like a lifeline. Everyday becomes a little brighter when I think about being in the verse, even if it's just for a little while.

At last.
We can retire and give up
this life of crime.

I completely agree. I've got issues of my own going on and having a place I can go to that is seperate from everything else really, really helps.

I recommend the gag reels from the show or movie, too. They can always make me laugh, no matter how bad I feel. Especially Nathan Fillion's comments/pranks...

"Storm's getting worse"

"We'll pass through it soon enough."

New to the 'verse but ready and more than willing to learn.

Firefly definitely helps me when I'm stressed out and about to go pyscho on all the people in the lab. That's why I have all the episodes on my laptop - so I can avert any sudden meltdowns.

But more than Joss and his wonderful creation, it's this lovely family of Browncoats that really helps keep me positive.

Yorik, I feel you. Mind racing, tremors, fighting with all your strenght not to cry so people don't come down on you. Just before I quit this horrible job, I got my Firefly DVD. Helped me to not go off on some really annoying folk. Just a tip (don't know if this will help or not but it did me); if you can't get to a TV in time, just close your eyes and draw a breath. As you do this envision that the air is white light that fills your body with positive energy and when you exhale, envision the air as black - expelling all the negative out. Sounds kooky, but it really has helped me a time or two.

Yorik,

Welcome to the 'verse. It really is one of the best places to be. I can definitely relate to your problem; I have cyclothemic disorder but if I take anti-bipolar medications I can't write properly, and seeing as I'm trying to be a novelist that's not a good move.

I see you're a nicely creative person and ficcer-in-potentia - that so, you're very lucky in that if you need a dose of Firenity you can probably just imagine it up in front of you. (Works for me when the world is being too stressful.)
