Watched Shindig for the second time tonight (UK).
The first time I wasn't that impressed with this ep but the second time I got more out of it. Do the eps get better the more you watch ? Thoughts ?

I've seen each episode at least 20 times, probably more, what with converting new viewers and playing the episodes in the background as I type or do research.

And yes, they get better with repeat viewings. Characters say what at first feels like a gag line, or a throwaway and later it can give you a real insight into an arc. Repeat viewings also help instill firefly goodness into your speech patterns, dong ma?

They get nothing but better. Every word, every nuance, every eyebrow of expression is reified.

Yeah , FF gets better with every re-watch. I watched Shindig/OMR/Trash several times already ( mehubby thinks meCrazy) and pick up on new nuances on characters and story each time. I cannot wait for unaired episodes to come available. To whoever was responsible for making eps available for downloading on `Net ..you are To TPTB that cancelled on of the most entertaining shows ever to grace our small screens , you `re

OK, we all seem to agree on this one, but here's the question: Is this something unique to Firefly, or does any given television show get better with repeated viewing?.....ok, so its ridiculous to consider 'any given' show having repeat viewing value, but among those that actually attempt to have something artistic to say? (unfortunately that narrows the field drastically)

Personally I can't really think of other television shows, even ones I've liked a great deal, that would hold my interest after more than a couple of viewings. There are a few select episodes perhaps(the last episode of Quantum Leap or some Twin Peaks eps come to mind), but its a short list. I'm wondering if there wasn't something unique to the way we experienced it, that allowed us to see the real beauty of Firefly.

I'd have to say, that while I enjoyed the first runs, I really didn't fall in love with this show until I downloaded OMR after missing its broadcast. Seeing the episode without the intrusive interruptions, and with the ability to rewind and listen to bits of dialog repeatedly, was a totally different experience. I guess what I'm getting at is that we may have seen something very different from what the casual viewer saw exactly because we watched the episodes repeatedly, and I'm assuming, with the commercials edited out. I'm wondering if it isn't somehow a waste to put that kind of depth into something that's intended to be shown as filler between commercials.

Maybe Fox wasn't so dumb after all. I'm serious. And I'm not just being cynical. Think about it, for viewers paying enough attention to pick up on the subtle things going on in Firefly, can the advertisements inspire much more than resentment? Is it really worth it to spend that kind of money (and the money required to continue the quality of that first run of episodes would have surely increased as the talents of everyone involved became more obvious) on something intended to sell soft drinks? In a way, I guess I'm saying Firefly was too good for traditional commercial television. Sort of like trying to slam down fine French cuisine on your thirty minute lunch break.

I think "Serenity" and "Out of Gas" are my two most rewatchable episodes. Both episodes are also very good for catching new viewers.

Yes, they do.

I admit I havn't watched them all more that once, but I will eventually. I like watching them over to see what I may have missed the first time around.

Once the DVD's come out I will be watching them even more since it will be easier for me to do so. I'm not so good with the computer so I usually have to get hubby to set them up for me to watch right now.
