The Jackson,Ms Chapter of Starfleet has posted the following article in it's COMMLINK newsletter.
SPREADING THE WORD....one potential Browncoat at a time.

Greetings!
I wanted to tell you guys about a charity event to benefit Equality Now. (Description below.) So here is the really cool thing. A bunch of fans from the short lived but long felt Firefly TV series has organized a screening of the movie Serenity (the theatrical released movie from the TV series Firefly) in 39 theaters across the world. All proceeds go to the charity Equality now. This happens on the 23rd of this month. The 23rd just so happen to be creator/writer Joss Whedon's birthday. And Equality Now just so happens to be Joss's favorite charity. The 39 theaters are all sold out at last report! There are MANY of other ways to donate to this charity. So please feel free to visit www.equalitynow.org to find out more. Or you can visit www.cantstoptheserenity.com to see how the Firefly fans are handling this. What these fans are doing is using something they love to benefit others. How ingenious is that?! Again Trek fans are no stranger to this concept! But....they are also doing it for another reason. They want Universal to see how important the show/movie is and was. They want another Movie! As a Star Trek fan I know how that feels! The otherwise know 'Browncoats' are asking for as many people as possible to purchase the DVD Serenity on the 23rd to send yet another message to Universal that the show has an audience ready to go see their movie. So if you haven't purchased it yet.....please wait till the 23rd to do so and help us ring Universal's doorbell.
To learn more about these fan driven endeavors please visit www.fireflyfans.net.
And if you just want to watch the episodes of Firefly as they were aired in 2002 on Fox....visit http://versaphile.com/download/firefly.html. If you have broadband it will take around 12 minutes to download an episode. Have fun and thanks for your time and help!!

Sincerely,
Mike

Yes, thanks Mike - as a fellow Star Trek fan as well as a Browncoat it's great to see fans from both shows working together like this (and yes, it's funny that Firefly is a way is facing the same problem Star Trek faced a long time ago...and in a way, is, sadly, again facing).

Long may both shows live on in those fans that love them! (and let's hope that both will be back one day)

- Shiny. Let's be bad guys.

Very cool!

But, one thing:

"The 39 theaters are all sold out at last report!"

I don't think that is true. I think so far, only the LA Screening is sold out. I know the one in Albany most definitely isn't! But wouldn't it be sweet if all the others were?!

Hey, from your post to TPTB's ears! (Or eyes...) ;)

But keep spreading the word and it just might come to pass. Like a self fullfilling prophecy. :D
