So the site seems to be all fixed like, I'm not saying that it really is, but it seems to be back, so I figured with all of us going nuts over it not being able to be here someone should say:

If I understood what you said in the black hole thread correctly the reason I thought it was fixed was that there weren't a lot of people on, and as soon as people came on it all went to hell.

It is very good to be back, indeed. I felt sort of like the crew in Out of Gas, leaving poor Haken to deal with the apperently imploding site but, like our great Mal, he fixed it! Or is still fixing it but its well on the way to full recovery! Thanks so much, Haken!!

Ah, crap. I made a new sig and finally filled out my Bio, and it wasn't saved. The tagline works, but bios and sigs seem to be a problem.
But as long as I can post (and everything's smooth and shiny in that regard atm, yay Haken!), I ain't complainin'.

I am so glad to be back.

I have a technical question, though.

Not to be a troll or anything, but . . . doesn't it slow down the loading of threads when folks post large images and flash stuff in their sigs, along with their text? Wouldn't those repititious graphics add to the load of the site in general?

I was of the opinion that the blue sun room had enough of a job with all the super shiny, almost hi-res images that we're lucky enough to have access to. I was also of the opinion that that was the ONLY place on the site you could post images. Wouldn't the NOT embedding of images in a thread be a courtesy for those folks with less bandwidth, so that long threads would load faster, Haken wouldn't have to set aside more storage space, etc?

One of the main reasons I like this board so much is it's possible to focus on the words people say, and not have to look at a lot of blinky stuff and personal ads at the same time.

OK, I will steal away and be quiet now. Any enlightenment on the pros and cons of this would be greatly appreciated.

The way stuff works for me is that the text loads first and the images second, so even if a thread was full of images that took ages to load I'd still get to see what everyone wrote just as fast.

I figured that that was the way it was for everyone, certainly it is the way it has worked on every computer with an internet conection I've ever been on. Did I figure wrong?

Also, the images people have in these threads are linked to, not uploaded, why would that have any effect on the storage space? I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm just saying I don't understand why it would.
