Our Invincible Captain has been hanging around the Fox board lately. I asked about Wash's real name and he put half the question to rest, at least.

What I asked: http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/messages?msg=8786.25

Mr. Fillion,
I'd like to back up Gaelsong/Kirsten on her request:

***And can you tell us anymore about our favorite Fly Boy? Can you drag him to a computer perhaps?? There are some of us here who are deeply in love with him... ***

I am also deeply in love with Serenity's stick jockey. Can you give us some tidbits? Like, oh say, for instance, what's "Wash's" real whole name.

Thanks very much for posting. Keeps the tragic space dementia at bay.

Sarah

Good question. This much I know: Wash is short for Washburn. Don't quote me on the spelling, and I don't know if it's his first or last name.

And can I just say that I have been this flipped out crazy excited since the Music City Miracle. Or I am even more so. I'm inarticulate with the freaking stupendiferundermous of it.

Way to get the big man's attention, Sarah!
I am very glad that he posts, and that I get to read it.

I am unsure exactly how crazy Joss might be, but from what I've heard - Washburn is a last name.
That's funny to think about, because it makes it so we could potentially call Zoe by the name Wash. Hmmmm. A thought... Has Zoe ever called Wash, Wash? Doesn't she always refer to him as something else?

And also in Our Mrs Reynolds, when Mal pointedly says to Book, "You woulda kissed her too!", Zoe replys "Wash didn't."

HA! I thought it enough! (A favorite Danish mistranslation :-))

IMDB has Jerry Lee 'Wash' Warren and I thought it looked fishy. Washburn makes lots more sense than Warren.

Meretean - off to to change Warren to Washburn on her Firefly website

He just said Wash was short for Washburn, not that Washburn was a name. Maybe Wash had been washing himself and had the water turned on too hot, giving himself a "washburn" and earning the nickname..

Ok so it's a tiny little bit farfetched..
