Howdy folks,

Anybody going out to Pi-Con next weekend? (Aug 12-13, in western Mass.)
(Pi-Con stands for Pioneer Valley. Took me awhile to figure that one out...)

I'm scheduled for two panels, both on the 'verse.
Has anyone attended an event similar this previously (small, topically diverse)? If so, I'd love to hear from you. I'm especially interested in your experience as to the ratio of FF fans to complete newbies. I'm thinking if I didn't know anything 'bout the verse, I'd be unlikely to attend a panel on the subject. HOWEVER, I notice that the Serenity panel is running practically non-conflicted in its Saturday timeslot. (unconflicted? anticonflicted? afflicted? That is to say, there’s only one other thing up against it besides the set-up for the evening’s concert.)

I'm really curious as to what the audience will be like at a convention with such wide-ranging topics (Firefly is followed by a BDSM panel and Serenity is sandwiched between Crime TV and fanfic).

Pi-Con is touting special guest -- Jacqueline Carey, author of the Kushiel's Dart (don't know this... should I check it out?), as well as Keith DeCandido.

Let me know if you think of any possible topics for these panels – just the ones which are both spectacularly scintillating and utterly virginal to these events. I’m looking for Hep, Innovative Vanguard-esque ideas. I have utter faith in you.

I would talk about why people love Firefly so much. Do a character study and how people are drawn to differnet ones and why. That way, you could intrigue people to watching! Also, mention the fanbase and how active we still are. Look at Amazon and how many reviews are for Firefly compared to other TV shows, it will blow your mind.

Thanks JTSKIER1200r!
Good idea on the amazon mention - the sales numbers and the spectacular number of reviews is indeed an interest-peaker.
If the attendees turn out to be total experts, the character study would be fun and revealing.
