In beginning of the movie before the bank heist, Mal goes into the infirmary and gets injected in the arm with something by Simon. Does it come to light why he gets injected? and what with? Did I miss it?

You know I was wondering about that myself.As soon as I read your response it hit me that I could have just looked it up in the Serenity visual companion, 'cause even after seeing the BDM countless times I still didn't catch it!Doh!

I just watched that scene. Nothing is said as to why he gets inoculated. In the "Train Job" people were suffering from something called Bowdens, not sure of spelling. It may be that this planet is known for its little bug. I'm assuming everyone else has received their shots earlier.

It’s the second line out of Mal’s mouth when he first meets Simon outside the engine room: “Better get innocked ‘fore we hit planetside.” Except that he kind of swallows the line and it’s drowned out by the landing sound effects, so the first few times I kept hearing “Better get her knocked ‘fore we hit planetside” and thought it was more technobabble about Serenity.

What STAKETHELURK said... I didn't catch it until about the second or 3rd time I watched it, But I replayed that section several times to try to figure out what he was saying (There's other noise going on and he's not speaking "loud and clear").. then it made sense.

He uses it as the excuse for why the doc is standing there in his face.. he asks it kinda as a question:
(Mal talking to Kaylee) "My Ship Don't crash! She's crashes, YOU crashed her! (Turns around to see Simon standing there) Doctor, Guess I need to get i-nocked before we hit planetside..."
