In the episode, 'The Message', River and Book are carrying sticks with a ball on it. Jayne called it an ice planet. What would that be made up of? Maybe their version of a candy apple? Anyone have any idea.

Do you think I'm a complete back birth!

Script says it's ice cream in a bowl-shaped cookie. The string is attached to the cookie. Ice cream, hence the ice planet.

I heard somewhere on one of these posts that it was a nod to something from Titan AE, or something like that. I think they sound yummy. If you get a chance I make reference to ice planet eating in my ten things I learned from Firefly posting. (spoilers)

Not to mention the whole post is quite hi-larious for any newcomers to check out. Plus it's great for a laugh for the veteran browncoats.

I suggested that "Ice Planet" was a nod to Titan A.E., a movie whose script was toiled on by both Joss Whedon and his co-exec producer Ben Edlund. The original title of Titan A.E. was Planet Ice (and for those who've seen that movie, the original title does mean something).
