HISTORY

Still flyin' pretty high one week post B3.
[No post-convention depression for me, Minime].
Many have more eloquently shared what actually occurred at B3, and I refer you to their posts. All I will add is how great it is to be part of the Browncoat community.

Thank you's are in order:

Thank you first and foremost to the California Browncoats [brian, marsia, "birthday boy" james, lynn, "man in the hat" adam, karla, maria, louise, melissa, arielle, dean, et al.] who created a unifying joyous and unforgettable event with literally no time to prepare. Truly awe-inspiring.

Thank you to our BDH's ["aren't they just!"] who came and gave selflessly and very generously of their time and good will: Nathan, Ron, Adam, and special kudos to Alan and Morena who were not even on the final schedule of guest appearances!

Thank you to Michael Fairman (a gracious, and surprisingly tall!, gentleman), Christian Hendricks (so beautiful), and Yan Feldman (not bad himself--Happy Chanukah, Yan).

Thank you to Camden Toy and the other stars of Buffy who were special additions to the festivities--particularly the sweet and very beautiful Clare Kramer: She and her charming husband hosted us at their fine new bar "La Cantina" on Hollywood Drive two weeks before their offical opening! [I cannot believe she played a "hell-goddess" on Buffy].

I must extend a very special thank you to Mark Sheppard who made himself available to fans nearly all weekend--always ready to talk, pose for a picture, or sign autographs. A truly delightful man and one I have come to greatly admire.

Last of the stars but foremost in my thoughts, is Mr. Jonathan Woodward. I had read words describing him as "the fan's favorite", which I could not understand--since he was on only one episode of Firefly, where he was a bit of a betrayer, and he died!--until I met him. He is personable, honestly warm and engaging, and was unflagging in his attention to assure a great time was had by all. He was fun and funny and charming. I am of suspicion that he anonymously helped also with contacting stars, arranging the evening event at Ms Kramer's bar and may have also (helped) covered the wonderful hor d'oeuvres that were served. Thank you (and if this was another anonymous donor or more than one, I thank you for your kindness and generosity as well).

Thank you to special guests: Greg Edmondson who gave a passionate discourse on his Firefly experience and hung out with the fans most of the weekend; Shawna Trpcic who shared how much she enjoys designing for scifi--even for "barbie doll"-like casts; Robert Lee of the Fruity Oatie Bar Commercial; and a very special thanks to Tim Minnear who's commentary of "Ariel" intermixed with some personal experiences with cast, Fox, and fans was a weekend highlight--and he, too, generously gave hours of his time to sign autographs, pose for photos, and be an all around tzaddik. I am looking forward to his new series "Drive"--which I read yesterday will star Nathan Fillion! [ http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3
i0123c6f82e9d75a960daf0920816a410
]. Tim gave away signed copies of two Buffy episode early drafts and his script for Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress"!! I hope a copy of the latter makes it on-line [I spoke with the winner and pointed him to the people who could help get this done, but he seemed reticent >sigh<].

Thank you to the Dealers who came--I think. I spent a lot of money--but had so much fun doing so. [I am such a geeky fanboy now. Where am I going to hang all of Jason Palmer's wonderful prints!]

Thank you to Jeremy, Brian and the whole "Done The Impossible" crew. I am excited about the Browncoat crusie a year from now--only Browncoats could get me on a cruise ship ["We need a bigger boat"--Jaws].

Thank you to the Bedlam Bards--jus' great folks.
Love your stuff. How 'bout sheet music? Would love to play some of your songs myself.

Thank you to the QMx people, Dark Horse [looking forward to the reaverized Serenity ornament and the PVC cast figures], and Corey of Multiverse.net [developer of the coming Firefly MMORPG] for demonstrating there is still money to be made in the Firefly/Serenity 'Verse. Let's hope Fox and/or Universal or others take notice.

Thank you to all my fellow fans who greeted me with warmth and hugs, shared good stories and gave of their time, even transportation [who would believe one would think nothing of accepting a ride in L.A. with someone you never met before! ]: Embers, ShinyTrinket, DonCoat, FireflyGal, and Ruby, Carolyn, Barbara, Samantha, John Jeremi, Traevlyn, Brenna, the crew of http://www.sendingawave.blogspot.com/ in the UK (love your accents), and many others who've I've likely missed in this post of appreciation.

Sorry I missed you PinkishBrowncoat [and hey!, whoever took my "History" button, cherish it}; and Leiasky/Tammy, I'm sorry I missed your party Sunday night, but I was on the red-eye back to Maine.

Finally, thank you to the Browncoat community worldwide who donated to make this event a success. Your kindness and generosity are truly inspirational.

All of you: from overnight organizers, to BDH, to support cast, to special and surprise guests, to dealers, to fans (attending and non-attending), are all truly righteous people--"menschen" as my grandmother of blessed memory would say. And since this all occurred in Burbank outside of the Bob Hope International Airport, I can only repeat:
"Thanks for the memories."

Respectfully,
History

Mostly non-Browncoats?

The estimate appears to be about 375, as opposed to the cancelled Flan 2 which would have been about 500.

Per the B3 crew, ~375 of the original 500 paid Flan 2 attendees. Then, I believe, there were additional local Browncoats who came to B3, but I am uncertain of this or how many.

History honey, haven't you learned, where there are ANY Browncoats, there are friends! And tis true ~ 20K attendees to D*C. You will see some familiar Browncoats (me for one) and meet many new and shiny ones. And you don't even have to talk to non-Browncoats if you don't want to

Technically speaking, there should not have been ANY non-Flan people at anything other than the Friday night hotel party, since that was the previously-announced SoCal Browncoats party moved up one day. Everything else for the weekend was orange-wristbanded Flan-only.

(Yes, there was some skirters of this, I think. But not, as near as I know, on any large scale.)

CANTER

The one thing I've wondered about with regards to FlanII is who the butt-grabbing giggling drunk girl/s were?

Were they adult women? You know, above the age of 18?

It fascinates me that people would forget themselves like that.

I read somewhere that she/they were spoken to about her/their behaviour, but that she/they (I'm unsure how many there were) were rather unrepentant.

I guess it doesn't really matter. Just curious.

I think we'd all like to know who those immature butt grabbing women were.

There were non Flan attendees at my room party on Sunday night but that didn't matter the festivities that required those wrist bands had finished. Besides, I was throwing the party and invited whoever I wanted. That just happened to be a bunch of people who couldn't afford Flan tickets - and the whole socal browncoat message board:)

I can idenitify one (by sight but not name) who claimed she did. I suspect (hope) the outrage being expressed will shame her and others to be more CCR (as Nathan shared in his blog) in the future, and there will be no repetition.
