SCIFIFREAK

Is it just me, or does it seem like the more I like a show, the less of a future it has? I almost hate to see a new show premier for fear that I'll like it and it'll go away. I loved Firefly, never missed an episode. I loved Birds of Prey, John Doe and many others, what does it take for a network to decide to keep a show going? Look at Serenity, a feature length movie made from a TV show that was cancelled, where's the logic in that?!? I know the studios are all about the green, but who decides what does and doesn't make money? Nielson ratings are a joke considering who it is that's chosen to participate. Are Sci-Fi fans looked at as not important? Consider if you will a little show called "Star Trek", it was going to be cancelled after it's first season and would have had it not been for a letter writing campaign which brought it back for only 2 more seasons. The show had less than 100 episodes in all, and has turned out to be one of the most sucessful franchises in TV history! I'd say that a total of 28 seasons between the various incarnations is pretty impressive! What's it going to take to make these people realize that not everything they touch has to turn to gold with the pilot before they give it a chance to develope?

I agree completely. Television studios are turning more and more to 'interactive' television shows than the staples that TV was born on (sitcoms, talk shows, action series, etc). Every time there's a new show out, I am also afraid to get watch it because it could be another Firefly or Surface. Maybe we should all ban together and make our own television network/studio that would care about the viewers more than popular culture and trends.
