I ponder this question to all my Browncoat Brothers and Sisters? What would Firefly have done if it had all the hype/marketing, wait no.... half the hype and marketing that drive has gotten? In fact lets take it a step further, what would Serenity have done at the box office if it had gotten half the hype/marketing as Drive?

"And I think calling him that is an insult to the psychotic lowlife community."

I've seen about as many ads for Drive as I did Firefly.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

I think the real question is, how far would Firefly have flown if it was put on a good night with a steady schedule?

May you have enough.

Although it seems that everyone who gets introduced to Firefly from a 'coat becomes an avid fan, I really don't believe that it would ever have had mass appeal....not that there's anything wrong with that...but the masses are asses. Firefly fans are enlightened and special. Well all except Kaneman & PN.

Lucas & Speilberg both knew that...why else would they have performed "treason" against their core fans to go for the mega-zillions?

Sci-fi, by its' very nature is cult and I actually like it that way.

Yeah, I think many Browncoats stumbled through the "side door" to Firefly.

My own experience is that anyone who isn't already familiar with Joss Whedon's work wouldn't go home and watch it even if you put a gun to their head.
"I said NO! I'm not interested!"
But if you happen to have the person over, and run it for five minutes, they say, "Hey, this great! What's the name of this again?" and go reaching for a pen and some paper.

Weird. It's like it has a "Somebody Else's Problem Field*" around it, that can only be breached sideways.

I watch alot of baseball, and on the fox sports channels, Drive comercials average about 2 an hour. I watched alot of Baseball when firefly was around never once saw a comercial and the show completely missed me except for the one episode i caught.

Well now, I saw a commercial for Firefly a month or so before it ran, and I remember thinking to myself "that looks so cool. I'll have t catch it from episode one." If i miss episode one and come in in the middle of a show and don't know the characters, it becomes increasingly easier to say "I'll watch later" or next season or whenever. Naturally, I forgot about it, and happened to turn on the tv the first night it aired, which of couse was episode 2. I got all upset because I thought I had missed previous episodes and it was so good. I'm sutyding abroad in Germany this semester, so I can't watch drive, though my family--bless their hearts--are taping it for me. I didn't expect anyone here would recognize the names Firefly or Serenity, but just last night i met not one, not two, but three Firefly fans! On a side note, when you guys read the title of this post, am I the only one that thought somewhere along the lines of WWFD? Second question...am I a bad person for thinking that? lol
