**CAUTION: Plot spoiler if you haven't seen Bourne Ultimatum**

A government human weapon, whose memory was erased and who suffers from laboratory flashbacks, endeavors to piece together the past and in the process uncovers dirty state secrets which, in the end, are broadcast widely to keep faith with democratic will and public right to knowledge, but not before some tense fighting with government "assets," operative-like agents, who blindly accept their mission.

HM! Sounds so familiar! Ring any bells for you?

I really, really enjoyed Bourne Ultimatum. Just thought the parallels were suspiciously uncanny (not that this plotline is all that unique).

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Uncanny indeed. However, I don't think it can be said that the plot was lifted from Serenity unless it differs wildly from the novel, which was published 17 years ago. I've been meaning to read the Bourne novels, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
A troll's hair is still pointy, even when it's wearing a hat.

I was just gonna say the same thing - but it's funny where we see paralells these days.. isn't it?

I keep seeing fireflies in movies and hearing the word 'shiny' and thinking - there's a browncoat behind this... like PoTC 2...

or is it just me?

Oh yeah! Bourne was based on a book. Well then, I guess the parallels are of a "recurring themes in pop culture" nature.

Though apparently the movie didn't follow the book much. Matt Damon on the script, according to IMDB:

"If you have any ideas for a script, please, call Universal! We've gone so far from the book. Ludlum wrote it as a trilogy and we've really kind-of ignored that plot because it's very Cold War. And so, in the updating process, we kind-of threw out most of what he had so we're kind of on our own to find a third one. Bourne Ultimatum is the third one and I feel like I've given ultimatums in both the first two!"

Yes, I have it from someone who did read the book before seeing the movie, that there's virtually no resemblance at all in the plot.

There wasn't even an ultimatum at all in the Ultimatum movie, but apparently there was one in the book.
