ok so heres what im pondering... how many times have you, my fellow browncoats, been perusing some gallery somewhere and admired Mal's bitchin leather duster.

For those of us unable to procure that extra fine jacket from whatsisname Mr. "i make coats for 1200$" the designer. I think we need a viable, spiffy, genuine mal duster replica... that will work on an independant's budget. So one day people will know us... by the colour of our coats

Procuring BDC (Big Damn Coat) has been a dream of mine since i was kneehigh to a reaver... (is it even legal to join the independants at age 13?) but i digress, i fell in love with the coat and to point me in the right direction would earn my eternal gratitude

Dusters can often be found at leather vendors - those SUPER SALE deals at convention centers and such. Soemtimes called CLOSEOUT sales.

The black dusters are normally more expensive than other colors, so brown might be cheaper.
Also, check out all your regaional leather goods retailers. Some are small shops, often they can take requests. If any duster will do, that should be fairly easy. But a decent leather provider should also be able to alter a design if you have some detailed specifics.

If you are near - or visit - the Mexican border, like Tijuana, leather goods there are VERY cheap, and Duster would be easier to get - duster has lots of leather, not as much fitting and sewing.

I haven't seen a duster for less than $55, not sure if I do have one or not - they're kinda warm.

The best browncoat I know out there for sale is Tristan's browncoats.

Check out this thread for a pic and contact details.

Oh. He's referring to a browncoat, eh? Aren't the browncoats a little short for a duster?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Museum replicas do a fantastic coat as well; I got to see a few at DragonCon, and they were just mouthwatering. Still rather expensive, unfortunately, but unless you pick it up used, almost anything made from leather will be.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
