Anybody seen the movie 3:10 to Yuma (the new version)?

AWSOME!!!! I've seen people complaining about the ending... but I thought it made perfect sense. I think a lot of browncoats would like it since Firefly has so many western aspects to it.

But the thing that I wanted to point out.. is that one of our BDH's is in the movie!!! None other than Alan Tudic!!! And I didn't even recognize that it was him until I saw his name in the credits! I had to go back and see for myself. I can't believe that I missed that it was him. I guess he's just that good of an actor!

But another intersting thing:

None of his characters can seem to catch a break. He dies in this movie too!

The movie was good but I disagree on the ending. It just doesn't happen that way. These men are desperados. It was just to pc for me. But hey if you liked it that's what's important.

I loved the film , and I loved Alan's role in

it...Our BDH is a solid actor ! I wanted to

stand up and say ,

something in a jar ! " , as a nod to Wash...and

Alan's connection to this film...

DARKFLY

Alan was great in the role of the doctor just a shame about the film, for me it didn't quite feel like it was put together very well & the ending was a bit of a let down. A good film but not a great film.

ERGASTER

I just watched that movie the other day, and watched it again immediately. I *really* liked it.

I didn't even realize who the doc was until the lighting in one scene hit his face in a certain way, and then it was: "OMG is that ... ???!! Cool!!!"

But still, I thought it was a great, straightforward western.

I thought the ending made perfect sense and wasn't PC at all.

By the way.. the rest of my post is all kinds of spoilery... You've been warned.

What's so PC about killing his entire gang? I think that's about as un-PC as you can get.

To me.. Wade simply had grown bored and complacent in life. Sure he was a king (of outlaws) but a bored one at that. And I thought Crowe played it beautifully. The best "villians" are ones that don't think of themselves as a villian. Not unlike the operative. Wade didn't see himself as a "bad" guy. He doesn't go around saying "Wonder what bad thing I can do now". But he had grown complacent with life.. and I believe that deep down he was looking for a way out, he's looking for something MORE.

Now Evans (Christian Bale) on the other hand. Trying to live an honest life.. but down on it from his experience in the war and loosing his foot plus all the bad luck with the weather. He is barely hanging on to be able to provide for his family. Now remember.. this is back in a time where THAT is what a man did. A man protected and provided for his wife and family in a land where a gun by your side was "the law". The wife took care of the homestead and raised the children. I know that might as well be "science fiction" to people today.. especially women. But back then.. that was what a man was. So with life dealing him one blow after another, his two boys no longer respecting him, and even worse that his boys may even look up to a man like Wade. And also a wife who no longer "looks at him" if you know what I mean. Trying to live on a land that is dry and aired, but later realizing that he HAS to live there because his youngest boy's medical condition. He no longer feels like a man. Now as powerfully damaging as that can be in todays world to a guy.. imagine how much more powerfully it would rip a guy down to his soul back then? Would it be enough to risk your life (litterally) to regain the respect of your family and provide for them?

That's exactly what he did and his motivation for the whole thing. And through out the journey, Wade sees something in Evans that intrigues him. He wants to know what makes Evans tick. And in the end.. when Wade could easily have killed him and walked away a free man. In a simple confession that to Wade that Evans didn't get shot as a "hero" in the war but was simply an accident and was shot by "friendly" fire, and I also suspect that he WASN'T this masterful sharpshooter than we kept hearing about.. this it was all stretching the truth in an ill-guided attempt for affection and respect from his boys. I think that's why he hardly took a shot, especially in that one drawn out scene where he raised his rifle to Charlie Prince as he was riding away, but Evans never fired. I think it was because he knew he couldn't hit him, and would expose himself to his boys that he wasn't the sharpshooter they believed him to be.

But anyway.. in that moment of confession, Wade understands, and he SEES something MORE. And that more is maybe what he is looking for deep down and decides to "help" Evans. So much so that even after Evans is killed, Wade still sees that Evan's oldest boy is there. And Wade has developed so much respect for Evans, that even after his death, he's not going to deny why Evans did the whole thing in the first place. Which is to give to Evans the respect from his family that he needed so badly... to make him feel like a man again.

You can almost SEE that in hindsight this will probably be the biggest turning point in Wade's life. At that instant, he is standing at a crossroads of his life. The moment he gives Charlie Prince that look.. that look that even Charlie knows he is about to be killed. Wade kills his whole gang, then gets aboard that train.

But is Wade going to go all the way to Yuma to be tried and hanged? He's already stated that he has broken out of Yuma twice... so that is unlikely. That's the beauty of the ending.. a simple whistle to his horse who begins to follow the train, leaves it up to the viewer to decide what will happen to Wade. I think it's implied that he is going to escape. But will he continue his life of crime? Or has the experience of knowing Evans changed him and shown him something that he's been missing in him, enough that he can escape his past life? It's up to the viewer to decide.

Again.. many people seemed to like the movie but not like that ending. It seems a lot think that Wade would simply have rode off with his gang because he is a "villian". But to me.. because he didn't shows something much deeper and more complicated. As I stated, He never thought of himself as a villian or a bad guy.. maybe in that instant for the first time in his life he did. And that's why he got on that train.

It was unexpected, yet at least to me, it made perfect sence, and that's why I loved it so much.. ESPECIALLY the ending.

I just watched it.
I loved it.
The ending is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful endings in recent filming, I thought it was perfect. I nearly cried at the scene where Bale and Crowe are making their final run to the train, it was so beautiful, and so perfectly done. *sniff* Makes me all teary eyed when I see cinema this good.
It gives more than a few nods to Sergio Leone's masterpiece, and it's very similar to it... but at the same time not very similar at all, if that makes sense.

I can never watch any of the BDH's in any film, without automatically thinking about Firefly/Serenity, so Alan's scenes made it difficult form me not to think about dinosaurs. ;)

These two movies are very different. From begining to end. The very end is completely different.

So you can watch both and without one ruining the other.

Just the narrowest of plot line similarity.

I prefer the first one made fifty years ago with Glen Ford and Van Heflin. More drama. I also feel Glen Ford did a better job of sweet talking the barmaid.

I saw it a few weekends ago, I was making it a semi BDH's weekend. I enjoyed the movie. I also decided to check out Waitress. Then, trying to broaden my horizons, (trying to watch something without a BDH), I saw Knocked Up...and guess what, there was Alan again being all funny again. Well, at least he didn't die in that movie and how did I not know he was is that one too. Now I just have to see "So I Think I Love My Wife".

I can't see what was "pc" about the ending. Wade killed his gang because after meeting Dan he saw them for the bunch of retardo losers they were, but I got no hint at all that he was about to "go straight" or anything. Just get off the train, and carry on with a new more carefully picked gang.

That's what I'd predict, anyway.

Though I have to say, the acting on both ends could have been much better.
I blamed the director and then watched the Assassination of Jesse James... and found myself much more satisfied.

There ya go. I've tried watching Assassination etc etc--well, more than twice, and I just can't muster up the interest to stick with it. I can see how folks would like it, but it doesn't do much for me.
