Hullo all. I am a big time sci-fi~got~nothing~better~to~do~geek.

I never actually got to watch Firefly while it was airing expect for once. I didn't have work, and I was at home. I turn on Fox (HOPING FOR SOMETHING GOOD TO SEE) and I see this show. At first I am a lil confused. Cowboys firing pee-shooters that sound a lil funny. Now a Spaceship... cowboys on a spaceship!? I watch the rest (Turns out to be the eps 'Safe' and the scene where Book gets shot.) When I finsh watching I am like HOW THE HELL DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS.

However it would be short lived cause my work schedule would pick up and I would end up missing the rest of the eps. VCR broken (not able to record expect static..). Anyways, I at first think about downloading the eps (suprnova/kazaa). But I hold off since I don't have a big enough harddrive (or burner). Then I get both and just as I am about to download the first eps, I hear about the DVD. So I wait for the DVD to come out, and when it does... SOLD OUT (Media Play)!!!

I finally got a copy with some bestbuy value cards I had. Went though all the eps in three days (work annoys me or I would have been done in one :P). I am really impressed.

I can't be as outraged as the rest of you to how Fox cancelled this show since I never was able to watch it myself epect for once when it was airing. But I am pretty outraged at FlyFire for all its stupid ideas or decisions over some of its best shows.

Space: Above and Beyond
Dark Angel
Futurama
Family Guy
John Doe
Fire Fly

Just a small list of the shows I KNOW Fox has stopped or cancelled that I REALLY ENJOYED. I don't even watch anything on Fox unless its something I really want to see which is only Simpsons, sometimes King on the Hill and Earlier Maclom in the Middle (kinda got boring.. but then again I have missed most of the newer shows since I always work on Sunday nights) and 24.

I had to resort to downloading Space: Above and Beyond and now John Doe to at least attain the series. At least I didn't have to do that with Firefly. If they ever do come out with DVD sets for Space and John, I won't stop from buying them.

I just wish Fox knew what they were doing. The Simplier LIFe wtf is up with that anyways.

Sorry about my rant about Fox. I am sure you have all said something to the same effect. I just needed to say my two cents and get that bad air out of my system.

Thanks for listerning and I hope to see you all around here! KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE!

I agree with ya. Fox is into the whole reality show phenom and I hate it with a passion. I was huge into Futurama and Family Guy also. Family Guy didn't get cancelled however, I think the creative talent went their seperate ways.

I will never forgive Fox for shutting down Firefly though. I guess Firefly wasn't picking up in the 12-20 year old kids demographic. UUGH! I guess we'll have to live with shows like American Idol and Joe Millionaire.

Yep. That went well.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I think you will find everyone here sympathizes w/ you RedKommie. I don't think anyone here will ever accuse Fox of making wise programming decisions. Unfortunately reality shows seem to be the show djour, though after Fox's flop w/ Joe Millionaire 2 and less than expected ratings on other reality programs, maybe the mood is changing again.

I really liked Space Above and Beyond myself, and worked for sometime w/ other fans to get the show back on the air, to no avail. They also killed Roar, which I liked. I have come to think of Fox as the quality program killer. I refuse to watch anything on Fox now. If my wife turns it on, I will leave the room.

Keep the Shiny side up

You are obviously not the type of viewer that Fox is hoping to attract, since you don't consider watching a spoiled rich girl stick her arm up a cow's butt the pinnacle of quality entertainment programming.

(Sigh)It's a sad commentary on TV in general that I was able to write that sentence, and that people will know which show I'm talking about.

What is sadder is that people seem to be entertained by this garbage. My wife got caught up in the reality trap I am sad to say. She watched the first Joe Millionaire, and she now watchs The Simple Life. I refuse to even be in the room when she turns it on. I have pointed out to her how it seems to be scripted and how deadpan and stiff the people in the show seem, evidence that they are really poor actors trying to act out a bad script, but she only says that it is "funny".

Me personally, I will turn on Comedy Central if I want humor.

I must say a public thank you to the UK's Sci-Fi Channel for the way they have treated Firefly. It makes a stark contrast with how Fox handled it.

They ran the whole series (including the "unseen in USA" episodes), in order and in a good time slot.

They then re-ran them all, 2 episodes at a time on Tuesday evenings. To top it off over the Christmas holidays, they even had a "Firefly Weekend", where they showed the entire series again over the Saturday and Sunday.

Sci-Fi Channel 10, Fox 0

Some TV stations CAN get it right. We truly are blessed.

That's not fair. I mean really, just not fair, compared to what we had to go through - I'm moving there. Can I stay at your house?

First, if you're going to have a true fox rant, you need to stop capitalizing the name - we can't have that kind of language here!

You're bang-on when it comes to fox and it's so-called "culture." fox was even recently described by the New York Times as being a quality TV serial killer.

You have the advantage of not having gone through the death throes of cancellation, but it seems you're still suffering the same sense of loss as those of us who did. That in itself earns you a spot among the masses.

Welcome Browncoat!

Gimme a GORRAM FOX!!

Well thanks. :p

About Sci-Fi UK, its funny, but England has always seemed to support its sci-fi shows better then anyone else I know. Babylon 5 magainze was made in the UK, Red Dwarf has a huge support... but stations like fox (NO CAPS FOR YOU) dond't really care that much about them 'gentlemen with nice hats' over there on that small island :P

Space: The Imagination Station, the Canadian SF Channel did an excellent job of promoting and airing the show up here. Decent commercials and a good timeslot (Mondays at 9:00PM). Apparently, it also got fairly good ratings durings it's first run. It's now on run number two at the moment.

It is my experiance that fox, like most conservative institutions in this country, is more than willing to sacrifice quality (what is good and right) for profit.

It would do us all to remember this lesson as we approach the upcoming election.

I doubt Rupert has his fingers in programming, he's too busy taking over the world! Don't forget that if it wasn't for Fox none of us would have been introduced to the crew of Serenity at all.

That non-caps thing is the result of having gone through the agony of cancellation - aren't you glad you were spared all that?

My favorite (and the best) sci-fi magazines come from across the pond. Cult TV, TV Zone, Babylon 5, FarScape and the like. The news may be about a month behind, but they often have tidbits that American TV forgot to mention, plus comprehensive episode synopses and excellent writing overall. Considering the UK is the land with the single longest running sci-fi series ever (Dr. Who was on for 25 years, I believe, before it took a little rest, and Red Dwarf is running a close second), you'd think American TV would be just a wee bit more considerate, wouldn't you?
