CALLKTULU

I just purchased a new rifle (one I've dreamed of owning for several years). No, several men did not come and try to kill me, with the best of them carrying it, but in true reverence and honor to Vera, I've nicknamed my latest purchase "Jayne."

Does anyone recall ever seeing Jayne's signature or his own writing anywhere in the show or movie? I'd like to burn etch such a signature into the wooded stock of "Jayne."

Just because I think that's cool.

If I can't find his signature, I might just have to settle for one of his witty quotes. Like, "Uh..."

I imagine Jayne has a simple, rounded handwriting, learnt in childhood and never used enough to change. Neatly printed capitals would probably be his thing.

Hacked in with a knife!

Actually, you could go for a pictogram. The one for 'man-ape' maybe. Or that one from his t-shirt that meant 'trouble-maker'

I'm thinking he signs with an "X" .

But enough suspense - tell us more about the rifle!! What'd you get?

Sorry, but I'm a li'l bit of a gun nut, and I've got my own version of "Vera" that I've been eyeing - a Romanian PSL 7.62x52R sniper rifle. It's a bit of a knock-off of the much-pricier and harder-to-find Russian Dragunov. It's not as nice, but it's still pretty decent, and it shoots the same shells. Semi-auto, 10-round mag, skeletonized stock, and good accuracy, reportedly out to around 600-800 yards.

And, unlike Vera, it'll shoot in a vacuum. :)

If and when I get my hands on it, it will be my very favorite gun. I'll call her Serenity, because she will ensure peace all around me... ;)

You know it could be one of those ironic things you encounter, maybe Jayne won an award for penmanship in 5th grade. It's on the wall with all his guns, right next to the prize for scripture knowledge (the one he stole that from some chap named Wooster).

Jayne can read????? (GG)

He did, slowly and haltingly, in MESSAGE.

Handwriting: "Dear Mr. President. Sorry about the crayon but they don't let me have sharp things in here."

Can't remember seeing anything with names on it belonging to our favorite gun nut. I'd imagine it would be an Edwardian script to enforce the idea he is a gentleman and more important than he is.

Maybe Jayne himself would give a hint. He is a genrous person.

When it's done, post a pic.

"It's my favorite gun. I call it Vera."
"My days of taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle."

I don't know about Jayne's signature, but you can see his handwriting in the movie Deadbolt when he sends himself a card.

I loooooove Adam Baldwin. I've seen ALMOST all his films and shows. . .I notice these things.

Oh, I think a young Jayne got sent off to Sunday school every time his momma could catch him! A dog-eared certificate for something like scripture would work perfectly. (either that, or he extorted tickets from other kids like a protection-racket Tom Sawyer!)

But a penmanship prize? That would be sweet. That's how I see his writing - a good kid's handwriting, and he's never used it often enough for it to pick up bad habits. Writes slowly, with his tongue out of the corner of his mouth, frowning with the effort, arm curved careful and protective about his work.

Of course, handwriting might be a skill you only find on outer worlds. Unless it's careful calligraphy, more art than communication, I imagine most people type or text in the Core.

I got a Springfield M1A. Easily the second most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on, my wife being the first. Can you post pictures on this forum? Here's a picture of Jayne:

TRAVELER

I have to go with you KWICKO, and say Jayne uses an"X".

Truthful though, his signature is probably very simple, but spelled correctly. I'd say sixth grade level writing. He does not seem to have much more education then that. He did read the letter from his mother. But he was having difficulty.

Most everything you see written is computer generated. I can't think of anyone actually writing with a utensile. Of course some of those outer moons certainly lack in the high tech department.

Our cuddly "Man Ape Gone Wrong Thing" has a signature?! I don't recon he'll see the percentage in that. But ..of course anyone who has tried figuring out ten percent of nothing and who sends money to his mom has to know how to write. I for one would very much like to see it.

Sweet rifle by the way.

Kwicko, here's how Jayne shot yesterday...

No scope, just open iron sights, so bear with me....

The smaller target with the close 3 shots is at about 23 yards, just to get things warmed up.

The larger, 12-inch target, is at about 97 yards. There are actually 7 shots on that one. Two went almost through the same hole. The two way off on the bottom were the first two. The last 5 (closer grouping) were made after sight adjustments.
