Is the name of Kaylee's home planet ( or at least the place where Mal picked her up) ever given, anywhere? Need to refer to it in a fanfic.

It's never referred to by name (although it's presumably near Paquin, since they are stuck on Kaylee's planet with a job waiting for them there).

In one of our virtual episodes at www.stillflying.net, we call it Guonian (which is a variant of a nihilistic Chinese greeting).

If you like that name, feel free to use it!

no name is given in the series -
but Serenity is on the way to Paquin when they meet her... so you could make a guess from a verse map.

the flashbacks in Out of Gas are generic but it all looks like Persephone to me - and Persephone is in-line with Paquin, so it's plausible enough.

In my fics i've speculated that as a youngster she was moved around some before her family could finally find a place to settle. She spent formative time in a stella Trailer-park. (ie it floats in space).

in the rolesplays i've done, its always been held to be a planet or moon (not sure which) called Three Hills.

Thanx for the help, all.
Guonian is too hard to spell, and sounds wierd. But I like Three Hills. Or maybe one could be the Planet/ moon, and the other the town?

According to your map, Persephone is about right, but according to the official map (link below), Persephone isn't even in the system. It could be anywhere in the Red Sun System, probably nearer or on Heinlein, leaving Triumph, something that looks like Silverhold and something beginning with "L."
By the way, there's a nice map of the 'verse here:
http://www.fireflyshipworks.com/2008/11/map-of-the-verse/
You can save the pictures or actually purchase one in poster OR roadmap style.
And it's endorsed and official. Geoffrey Mandal, who made the maps for the movie, worked on it and there was a lot of astrophysics gone into it (you'd think I was advertising them, in reality it's just that I really want one).

On the Serenity Blu-Ray HD-DVD, I saw a birthplace listed for Kaylee in her dossier, although I think it may be the name of her hometown rather than her homeplanet.

WhaAAA???
Does the bluray thingy have "dossiers" on all the BDH? Is this a new feature never before seen in other materials? i don't recall seing any such thing on my CE Serenity or my FF DVDs. Did I miss something, or do I need to go buy a bluray?

If so, you should post this in that bluray review thread.
