MISGUIDED BY VOICES

Anybody else noticed how the phrase "not so much" appears to have been the unofficial Firefly catchphrase?

In part its because it crops up so much in the commentaries, but also in a few episodes (and the voiceover that we who only got to see the show on DVD didn't get).

Any other catchphrases been spotted?

"I threw up on your bed"

Apart from "shiny"? I love that one, because me and my friends used to say it in high school.

Uh...not so much, no.

Don't even recall it being used on the show, actually. But perhaps I'm just a fool.

"Not so much" became very noticable when Mal started doing the voice introduction on the original Fox broadcast.

The voice introductions aren't on the DVD, so "Not so much" isn't noticed as much.

Mal's Intro:

MAL: "So we moved out and terraformed a whole new galaxy of earths. Some rich and plush with new technologies. Some, not so much."

It's not just Firefly. Buffy and Angel have it too--more of a Joss thing really.
I knoticed the 'not so much' keept poping up in conversation after my best friend became a hopeless buffy adict.

between her and Firefly I can't so much stop using it.

Mal:"someone ever ties to kill you, you try to kill'em right back!"

One Whedon thing that I've starded using is just using 'with' as opposed to 'with you/her/him/them'. Like, someone will say "I'm going to the store," and I'll reply, "Can I go with?" Because the you/her/him/them really isn't nessecary.

"That's what happens when you call the FEDS!"
