Melinda Clarke (Nandi from HoG) is to appear on CSI tonight. Apparently she's appeared several times as a recurring baddie?

Gonna watch just to see her in action.

I feel pretty religious about the original CSI. I'll watch CSI: NY if there's nothing else on...if forced to choose between watching CSI: MIAMI and reading a toilet paper wrapper, I generally choose the wrapper (got a minor thing for Emily Proctor from her days on West Wing, but it's not enough to put my ass in the seat, as it were).

It was like that when we got here!

Also thanks for the heads up on the dif CSIs. I feel ya' on the CSI: Miami. My sister swears by that show and is an avid fan. Me, whenever I go over to her house, I spend most of the time goofing on David Caruso.

He seems to have a neck problem. Whenever he's about wax poetic and get all drama-y on some prep's ass, he tilts his head to the side. Watch for it next time, I crack up every time I see it.

Now my sister says that I've spoiled it for her cause she now notices it more. I agree that the original is the best, after all the "Manhunter" is THE man. William Petersen originated the role - a terrific movie BTW. But I'm sure you've seen it since you're a fan. As far as the spin-offs are concerned CBS was trying to do the L&O thing with the CSI franchise. Some things are better left alone.

Yeah, the funny thing about me and CSI: MIAMI is that I'm happy (in a tepid, sorta pointless way) for David Caruso (and you're right - he seems to need a chiropractor). As you're probly aware, he walked away from NYPD Blue after the first season 'cause he got the big head and figured he could obnoxiously write his own ticket. He soon found out otherwise, and spent a few years in almost total obscurity, and - I gather, haven't really mad a study of it - some degree of substance abuse and unpleasant behavior. Then he somehow landed MIAMI and from what little I've read and heard since then, he regards it as an undeserved second chance - real attitude of gratitude, as it were. It tickles me when peeps get a second shot and realize how fortunate they are.

Just wish his show had a better style-to-substance ratio..or is that, HOratio? Ha-ho, somebody kill me 'for I get any funnier!

ETA Almost forgot - Manhunter rules! I got no quarrel with Ed Norton, and Red Dragon had its moments, but Manhunter with Peterson was kick ass. And - again, big Anthony Hopkins fan - but I really liked the original actor (name escapes me) that played Lector. That dude was spooky..."Would you like to give me your home number, Will...?"

I get what you say about David Caruso. I too was a big fan from NYPD Blue days. He, or his agent, totally miscalculated his position in the industry.
Shame too, because if he'd had just hung on for another season or two, maybe that would've been the case.

Also a underdog fan. I root for just about anybody for a 2d chance, some really deserve redemption. But he was better when he was with NYPD Blue, as far as acting is concerned.

As far as the show is concerned, they could do better. I don't know if it's the writing, directing or the actors (I'm gonna go with the writing on this one, with some credit should going to the direction). But this show should be a hit, both critically and popularly speaking. But go figure, what works on one show doesn't always translate to another show.

Manhunter is one of my favs. I put it up against Silence of the Lambs anyday. Oh, BTW, the actor who played Lector in Manhunter is Brian Cox. A brilliant character actor whose work can be compared to Brian Denehy and Christopher Walken.
Cox has been a very busy man of late; he's been in some really good films:
Most recently - Bourne Identity, Troy, MatchPoint,Running with Scissors, Zodiac and Adaptation to name a few.

BTW Melinda Clark is sooo good as Lady Heather in this show. Her and Petersen have real good chemistry. She's really a solid actor.

I've enjoyed Brian Cox's work for a while now.
Rushmount, Long Kiss Goodnight, Kiss the Girls, Braveheart, Glimmer Man, Chain Reaction, plus Super Troopers, The Ring, Zodiac.

Enjoyed William L. Peterson before CSI. Great in To Live and Die in L.A. and cool work with Rob Lowe in Mullholland Falls. I thought Red Dragon didn't need to be made with Manhunter already in the can.

I remember reading in that lousy Parade collumn by william Scott where some reader asked why Caruso does that annoying head tilt, and that uber dim columnist claimed it was called "acting". Sheesh.

Agreed in most every particular. As an aside, the writing on Num3ers is, for me, that show's one weak point as well. Huge appreciation for Krumholtz, Morrow, and Hirsch for past works...acting-wise I think everybody on the show does a decent job. But the writing is a little...uninspired to me. If they could get that jazzed up a little, I'd be a real eager viewer. But it still beats CSI: MIAMI, which, to me, is pretty much a one-note deal. Whereas the orginal seems to cover at least a whole octave most of the time.

Another movie with Brian Cox that I saw a few years back is The Reckoning (2003). I imagine you've seen it or at least heard of it. Besides Cox it's got Willem Dafoe (another craftsman) and Paul Bettany (first thing I ever saw him in). I found it well worth watching...not an "exploding boobies"-type project.

Brian Cox is one of my fav character actors, but I too was not thrilled about Red Dragon, it was so-so for me. But I do like Ralph Fiennes in just about anything (Maid in Manhattan notwithstanding).

And Caruso's head tilt is called "acting" by William Scott. He would probably suggest that Palin could teach Social Studies to 5th Graders; or she could go on Jeopardy and tell Trebec: "World Continents for $100 Alex."

Num3ers, I only watch occasionally because of Krumholtz, he's the best thing on that show. Hirsch does a decent job as the father, but Morrow, to me, is miscast as a FBI agent. I just don't believe him in that role. But Mr. Universe and Peter MacNicol make that show interesting. I agree about the writing though - weak at best.

After watching a few eps of CSI I've concluded that it's one of the best written shows on TV today. The actors are given some juicy stories to tell, and they step up to the plate. I'm going to catch up by watching the eps online. Watching Peterson at work is a joy, he says so much in just a look. Really a good, solid show. Did you hear that he's leaving?

If you like CSI, then I think you would like Fringe (Fox) Tues. 9 pm. Good stuff! Catch eps on Hulu if you havent watched from beginning. Brian Cox in The Reckoning, I haven't seen it. It's on my list now though.

Yes, Num3ers' writing lacks...zip, for lack of a better word. The only prob I had with Morrow-as-FBI-agent was when I thought of him as Joel Fleischman from Northern Exposure. But, by the time Num3ers came along, it had been so long seen I'd seen an ep of NE that it didn't really slow me down too much.

Yeah - not cool! I mean, I think the overall cast would still be strong - barely, given the loss of Dourdan and Fox - but CSI without Petersen is a little like bread made without flour: The remaining ingredients are worthy, capable ingredients, but man - we need the flour! The name I've read most as a replacement is Laurence Fishburne. I can see it, and I'd certainly give it a chance...but he, sir, is no Will Petersen. My personal favorite character after Grissom is Brass - love everything about that guy, his name, his manner, his delivery... If Paul Guilfoyle leaves, an hour of my Thursday nights may get freed-up...

I've seen about an ep-and-a-half of Fringe. It seems a promising show and I think I'd be an out-and-out fan if it weren't for one silly prejudice of mine: I can't watch it without thinking that it's a sort of reincarnation of X-Files. I watch it and part of me's going "...been here, done this...". I admit, that objection sounds pretty lame, even to me...but there it is. It applies even more strongly in the case of Eleventh Hour, which I've seen even less of than Fringe.

Indeed I did - kind of you to notice! Actually, I semi-subconsciously lifted it from Zeek in the "Dollhouse moved to Friday deathslot" thread (credit where credit's due, Zeek - thanks!).

It was like Will Petersen ripped out my beating heart, showed it to me, stomped on it, and put it in a 7-Eleven microwave set on high with a can of Beenie-Weenie for company...(whew!)...when we got here!

I do recall one catchy line from CSI. They were talking about some mystery pill found on the tongue of a dead woman, described the contentsm decided it was a designer drug, and one of them (maybe Caruso) said, yeah, that's sucralose.
Funny as heck they exposed that, but most viewers probably missed it. Of course, it's the "same thing as sugar" and is not a pesticide and does not cause vast multitudes of illnesses.

Similarly funny scene from a recent CSI (original) ep - Grissom, Doc Robbins and his assistant are discussing the autopsy of a guest star's (Katey Sagal) body. It emerges that the GS has had a hysterectomy...and she had tampons among her personal affects. The assistant asks (paraphrase), "Well, if she had a hysterectomy, why was she using tampons?" Doc Robbins response: "Nostalgia?" (funny look from Grissom).

Sorry - I sorta butchered it. Ya had to be there. Laugh? - I thought I'd have an infarction!
