I read in a different thread that Nathan is going to be in a pilot for a new TV show. Maybe this is the obstacle that was mentioned? Joss said that he wants all the original cast in the new Firefly show/movie, but that might not be possible if Nathan is not available.

I'd rather wait longer for a movie than have anyone (especially Mal) recast. I wouldn't go as far as to say it would suck, but it definitely wouldn't be the same.

I was wondering that as well, but I don't know if it will be a problem at this point. Nathan is filming a pilot, which will take a week or two at most. They won't film anything more unless the show is picked up (which, given the premise, is doubtful, IMHO). I am sure they could film the movie around his schedule at this point.

However, if the show does get picked up, and he is filming regularly, they may have to wait until his hiatus. More reason to get started as soon as possible.

Mentioning new shows as obstacles, how about Adam Baldwin possibly (or definitely) being in a new Stargate spinoff? That could put a monkey wrench into things.

I have another theory, this one regards one of the Special Effects companies.

I'm starting to get reports (unconfirmed as of yet so I won't gaurentee) That SciFi finally picked up the Battlestar Galactica remake as a serries.

If so, that would split the effect company between a movie and a serries, and I don't know how well that could be handled.

That is, assumeing the same one will be used, and I'm not trippin' and thinking of another company.

Actually, President Roosevelt's favorite saying went something along the lines of:

Agreed. There's some cast members who could be replaced, and it...well, it'd suck less. Like Zoe, or Wash...maybe even Jayne. Well, probably not Jayne.
But Mal? I don't know...if there's one charactor who's the same, I vote Nathon.

Don't get me wrong; if none of the original cast members are in this movie, and Serenity doesn't look the same - hell, if the movie is about a differant ship and crew all together, I'll still be excited to see this film. I just...I just love the Firefly universe.

I am pretty sure the whole cast will be back, barring deaths. Joss wants them back and so far the cast has indicated a desire to return.

Can't see any actor giving up a movie deal for a tv deal. The money, the publicity, etc.

Plus given how great the chemistry was on screen, why would anyone want a change?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Nathan is filming another pilot? Anyone have a link to an article? I know he did Alligator Point, which NBC did not pick up. Didn't know he was doing another.

Not sure about Adam and his scheduling w/ Stargate: Atlantis. The last he posted, he still was not sure what role he would get, though he did say he was doubtful it would be the lead due to his age & the writers were looking for a 20 something to head the cast.

From what the cast said at the LA Con, it seems that each of them would make time for the movie. I doubt that there would be much in the way of scheduling conflicts.

Don't know about the part that Adam Baldwin is auditioning for in SG: Atlantis, but I was shocked at his true age. I think he looks much younger than he is, though obviously not 20 something.

If he got the part I would be encouraged to watch. I watch SG-1 if I haven't seen it and I am too bored (aka unmotivated) to do anything else (like read, game, etc).

Usually filming a pilot is less of a commitment, because they can redo it if the show gets picked up. (Remember that the original Buffy pilot had a different Willow.)

Fillion has said he'd skip dialysis to make this movie, and I believe him. Who would pass up a possible TV deal for a once-in-a-lifetime movie deal?

Thanks for the links. Just hope Fox doesn't put the whammy on Nathan.

Not to throw a spanner in the works, but dare I mention Tom Selleck and Indiana Jones, and Brosnan and Bond - both (I may have mis-remembered with Selleck) lost out on their parts because of TV roles, in the case of Brosnan because he was contracted following a pilot and the late pick-up caused problems.

That said, I think its a given that any movie will be an all or nothing (the old rumours about a B5 movie with a new cast spring to mind). There isn't really a benefit to rushing it out - the fans (who are a tiny minority of the required audience to make a movie a bona fide hit) will stick around, and its not like Firefly had a chance to create a huge footprint upon the world -in a Buffy/X-Files style.

Replace Wash? Blasphemy I tells ya - Alan Tudyk nailed that part. As did all the cast - Gina Torres was making the rather blank canvas of Zoe (I have no doubt we would have found more about her as the show went on) interesting.

I'd have thought that Adam Baldwin was easiest to replace, but every time I watch an episode I see the subtle things that he was doing with Jayne, that you don;t notice, but make the character work when it shouldn't. My bad. They can re-cast Vera if they like.

Scary that the article has the term "Fox's short-lived drama" twice.

I know, every actor was absolutely perfect for their role. I gues it's just that Wash and Zoe got so little screen time, that replacing them wouldn't matter as much as replacing the others. As for Jayne, he didn't really have any important relationships with others. Like, replacing Simon would be wierd, during the scenes where he was alone with Kaylee or River. I guess the same could be said of Book...but he was so damned cool!
