Hello, new to firefly but not new to serenity.

Watched Serenity before the series unfortunately and then came to realize there was a whole series on the thing. Just got it there a week ago and I have just finished watching it all. It's amazing.

Only thing is, the end of the series doesn't match up with the start of the Movie and I am wondering have I missed something I should know?

Throughout the series I noticed there was a lot of filling in for the film, even though I didn't need it. I still thought Serenity was excellent even though I had never seen the series. It tells you about reavers and the alliance in the series also the stories of the characters etc but never mentioned anything about Mr.Universe or The Operative. It's almost as if it's a different story to the series, or from what I can remember, so I figured maybe I missed something?

Are they honestly never going to make another series of this? I know that this was made back in 2002, thats almost seven years ago... how can Joss Whedon make seven seasons of Buffy and only one season of Firefly. No offense to any hardcore Whedon fans, but Buffy is tripe. How could he abandon Firefly for it.

BYTEMITE

Well, the main reason for the different faces you see is because the rights had to be sold from Fox to Universal, and so not all the elements from the series could be safely (in a legal sense) be transferred over from the series. That's why you don't see Badger or the hands of blue for antagonists.

There's a couple of comic books by Dark Horse that help bridge the gap between the series and the movie, and that might help you. Those are canon.

There's also stillflying.net, not canon, but they have some pretty good ideas I think on all the little details between the series and the movie.

Joss didn't abandon Firefly for the last season of Buffy. Fox broadcasting was just too stupid and blind to see their hands in front of their faces and canceled it 14 episodes in. Which I suspect they're regretting right about now.

As for a revival of the series... Fingers crossed. And hey, you being here helps that.

Yes, Bytemite summed up the situation pretty well. Fox shattered Joss Whedon's heart into a bunch of little tiny pieces when they canceled Firefly. In large part because of the love and support of the fans, the movie Serenity got to exist to tie up some loose ends and give the 'verse another visit. If all had been fair and just in the world, there would have been seven years of Firefly and at least a trilogy of movies. I'm happy we got at least the one movie, though I'm holding onto hope for more still, and I know others are as well.

It's good to see another Browncoat speaking up! And to echo Bytemite again, being part of the community does help! So welcome!

I'll echo the others. The comic books bridge a bit of the story. Like why Book and Inara are off ship when the movie starts. How the Operative came to be chasing them, etc. Some of the deleted scenes in the movie also help the story.

Glad you joined us.

Welcome!

I don't think Joss abandoned Firefly; it was canceled and Fox still retains ownership.

It is out of his control.

PS I'm not a Buffy fan either, so I hear you.

Welcome, tonyglau! *pulls a virtual Browncoat out of the closet* Here ya go, try it on for size! Someone must have bought seven seasons worth of those things and stored them away when the show only got one season... We never seem to run out of Browncoats around here! Hope you can savor the last two episodes when you finally break down and watch them! They're both good, of course!

Then you'd probably appreciate the fact that Nathan Fillion has said he keeps a prop lightsaber by his front door (in case Sith Lords decide to assault his home I guess)! :) Yeah, I'm a "stuff" collector too.

Plenty of stuff on Ebay. Just search for Firefly/Serenity and the different cast members.

Also QMX has a lot of licensed things, wavecards, prop money, lunch boxes, posters, Maquettes of Mal and Kaylee (Jayne is in the planning stage, I've heard). ThingsfromAnotherWorld has the comics etc.

Also keep an eye on the KidsNeedtoRead Ebay auction site. Lots of good stuff weekly, including the famous Terrifyn' Space Monkeys and the money goes to purchase books for underserved libraries.
