I was just re-viewing the "Making Of..." featurette on DVD #4, and it kinda made me think. This show really was special. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but, this show really was a special creation; the likes of which we probably will never see, even if we live to be a thousand. Lord knows, the run-of-the-mill J.O.s running the show at the usual-suspect-networks wouldn't know quality television if it nipped them on the pigu.

I hope that Joss and the rest of the Browncoats at ME really push to keep Serenity flying, and I hope they know how many of us fellow Browncoats are out here waiting for the story to continue. Personally, I can't wait to find out what happens.

You'll all have to excuse my overabundance of stridence and weepy introspection. A little too much Jamaican rum and "Firefly" DVDs can do that to a person. Well, anyway, a person that doesn't watch the usual dreck and drivel on TV. Be well, all

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

Hear, hear, Ecmorgan69! I like to think that we all count towards our goal of Firefly returning to the airwaves, whether it be with our pocketbooks or our loud-mouthed marketing.

And I think Vodka-7s will do that to you, too!

Is there such a thing as too much Jamaican rum? hee hee. No worries, your thoughts are well taken.

Another very random thought I had was the dinner table stories of Mal and Book. Both have hi-larious stories that include....well, let me try to explain.

In 'The Message', Mal talks about how Tracey shaved off a C.O's mustache and wore it. Speaking of how proud the C.O. was.."I doubt I'll ever lover a woman as much has he loved that lip ferret... "

In 'Out of Gas' Book makes a reference to somehting happening to one of his brothers in the monestary..."didn't you tell him? " no! he was so proud of it..."

Both stories talk about some jokes or some occurances happening to others who are *proud of something. Makes me wonder if Joss had this side story /joke he wanted to put into FF, and was just fixated w/it.

*I thought priest or shepards weren't suppose to be proud , but were to be humble instead...oh well.

You want to meet the real me ?

Your mention of Mal's moustache story from The Message sparked something that has been bugging me for a while. Tracy is from Mal and Zoe's unit. But Zoe, in one of the deleted scenes from Serenity, tells Simon that out of all the soldiers in their unit only she and Mal survived the battle of Serenity Valley. Based on an earlier discussion it seemed to me that this scene was to be considered as canon. So where was Tracy during the battle of Serenity? The only thing that I could come up with was that he had been transferred out of the unit, possibly because of the "moustache incident." Has anyone else noticed this potential inconsistency (possibly discussed in a thread before I came on board here)?

Or I could just blame it on the alcohol and figure I'll forget all about it in the morning.

Its true, all the world is turning into cop shows and reality TV. I like the former, and hate the latter, but even so, if all of our TV becomes so grounded in reality and leaves nothing to the imagination, leaves you with no sense of wonder of excitement beyond a cop catching the killer, then TV is on the rocks. Franchises, yes they can be good, but if all your doing is turning the handle and bringing out another variation (CSI team, Law and Order team, Star Trek team) its not really inventive or new, or refreshing. I don't think Firefly was like anything else I've seen, its a mesh of genres to be sure, but as we know a lot of that stems from how Joss saw earth and other worlds developing, rather than from his need to have a sci-fi western simply because it sounded like a good idea.

On fourth special DVD, Tim Minear tells that story about how Adam Baldwin told everyone that he knew that working on the show was special, he had done it longer than some, and realised how much everyone cared and enjoyed what they were doing. I'm a bit like Ron Glass in that I can't help getting a bit emotional when I watch that last DVD, and I look forward to the day when I can look back on it and not get upset about it. It was a diamond in the rough of mass produced television rubbish, its just a shame it didnt get a chance to shine for longer.

The Battle of Du-Khang, an intense battle where Mal & Zoe help Private Tracey after he is injured from shrapnel. ( http://www.fireflyfans.net/reference.asp?r=762)

The battle of Du-Khang is referenced as being seven years previous. The battle of Serenity Valley is referenced as being six years previous. I interpreted that to mean that they were different engagements in the war.

[editted to correct spelling of Du-Khang.]

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I had thought that Tracey was sent to the rear to recoup due to his injuries from the Battle of Du Khang. Of course he could have been reassigned due to the mustache incident.

Ah. Sent to the rear for medical reasons makes a lot of sense. Thanks. It's one of those little questions that has been in the back of my head for a while.
