Good news / bad news:

The bad news is Cabin in the Woods has been pushed back a full year, from it's expected release in Feb 2010, to a new date in Jan 2011.

The good news: This was apparently done because test screening scores were so good, that they're converting the whole film to 3D and planning to give it a bigger promotional push.

ZEEK

Where can I get on one of these test screenings you speak of?

I thought that MGM was dying and needed it's next few films to do pretty well just to stay out of the red. Doesn't sound like a company with the time to spare.

Test screenings are almost always secret. What they tend to do is set one up at a mall, and then hand out passes to random shoppers. They also try and avoid letting internet-savvy folk, or big film buffs in, because if it goes badly, they don't want word to spread.

As for MGM.... couldn't tell ya. They are up for sale, so maybe having a high-testing 3D feature finished would be a selling point? Beats me.

I've had the script for Cabin for months now, but had not read it, expecting to see the film soon enough. But if it's going to be that long, I think I'll finally break down and read it.

MANGOLO

Converting it to 3D will make it harder for a film like this to show a profit. Only a handful of films have made back the extra it costs to convert the film to 3D.

But studio executives are mostly sheep.
