It makes no sense, but Kaylee was in a snit because of Mal's earlier insult. She refused to go to the Shindig with him. Jayne and Mal were playing cards to decide who wears the suit, who wears the dress. Anybody willing to write a Mal/Jayne story about this contretemps? About Jayne's awakening to his softer, feminine side?
